"Sweet Mother Logic LP Review"

Montreal instrumental quintet Sweet Mother Logic proffer their debut full-length, a [...] collection of 11 epic compositions in a prog rock/fusion vein. Guitar, bass and piano do battle with cellos, synths and organs, stirring up a rich mix of retro and contemporary sounds. While I prefer languid, ethereal cuts Anthomedusae and Fractal Hands, SML aren't afraid to indulge in raucous, funky and faster-paced bits also - Ghost Army even leaps into a four-on-the-floor beat for house heads. Fans of cinematic, wordless tunesmiths such as Secret Chiefs 3, Cinematic Orchestra or Bell Orchestre will relish the excellent production, warm sonorities and spirited playing. - The Hour

"Ascension Island EP Review"

Ascension Island, progressively moves through the tracks bridging smooth melodies with chaotic climaxes that keep listeners on the edge of their seats. - The Link

"Sweet Mother Logic - Concert Review"

You don’t know where each song is going until they take you here, note by note, chord by chord. The result is a voyage into an exciting new realm in music, with haunting melodies that stayed with me long after the night was over. - sweetspot.ca (Vanessa Muri)

Bio

Consisting of two cellos, synths, vintage organs, bass, guitar, drums, and piano, this instrumental quintet stirs a wide variety of styles and sounds together to form something new and tasty. Formed in January of 2007, they have played shows in Montreal to sold out audiences, at reputable venues, including O Patro Vys, Casa Del Popolo and Divan Orange. Described by some as a cross between Battles and Bell Orchestre, the band's moody chord progressions, intricate rhythms, and free improvisation collide, giving birth to a danceable, high-energy groove that is complex but still easy to listen to.

In October 2009, they launched their first full length opus, a selt-titled album recorded and mixed by Paul Scriver. Over 11 tracks, the instrumental band breaks free of conventional song structure in favour of a unique and mature compositional style, complex but still accessible.

Ascension Island is Sweet Mother Logic's debut EP, released June 26, 2008. Over the four instrumental tracks, the mellow sounds of cellos are mixed with analog synths and electric guitars over jagged beats, flowing from tense chaos to melody. As the public's introduction to Sweet Mother Logic, it is also the band's introduction to the world of recording. Hence they kicked things off the old-fashioned way, and recorded and mixed the EP live off the floor onto 2" tape at the Treatment Room, one of Montreal's finest analog studios.
