"Looking Towards The Oblique"

“OVO put the new disc from Sweet Oblique under the glass after hearing their name pop up a lot a week after their show at The Orpheum in Tampa. 'Refreshing new music' almost downplays what's going on here. Well thought out lyrics brought to life by a meticulous and very direct singer. She nails it. It would be easy to make comparisons here, but there is a [sweet] undertone of the feeling that "you've never been here before," in particular, on the song "Easy." Some harmonies are the only thing missing here. The guitars are all over the place, in a good way, complimenting the vocals throughout the journey of the song. This is a band that can stay under the radar for only so long. I'm thinking a full length, with a qualified producer, will bounce Sweet Oblique to the place they deserve. ”

"“SWEET OBLIQUE should rename themselves as SWEET UNIQUE"

The Tampa band that formed in 2010 have been making their incredible music presence on the alternative/rock scene. The band has resurrected the 90’s grunge sound and have paired it up with a melodramatic rock vibe. “Only When I See You” is a track that’s classy, dark and seductive and showcases the outstanding lead vocals by Angel Sheppard. It has a distinctive British Rock sound to it. “Easy” is a beautiful piece of music that screams out perfection. It is totally different from the other songs, literally spell binding. “Play to Win” allows singer Angel to show off the vocals that label her as “an amazing vocalist and lyricist.” As well as also having a Nirvana-esque sound to it, other noticeable musical influences come across on this track. It’s potentially the best track on the disc. This is certainly a band to watch out for. I give SWEET OBLIQUE 3/5 stars ”

Bio

After stints in two popular Seattle bands, pboss [originally from Ohio], took the long way thru New York State and down the east coast before relocating with guitar in hand to Ybor City in Tampa, with some new tunes he had penned while in and out of some of the less desireable motel rooms you see on the road. In late 2010 he met Angel Sheppard, an amazing vocalist and lyricist, formerly of the band Crevice from Detroit, who provides the perfect blend of heartfelt words and passion to each song. After comparing adventures, the song writing process suddenly got really interesting thanks to the many crazy experiences each had been through. Angel has a huge heart for her critters and has been involved in many animal rescue operations. On drums is Rob Thompson of New Port Richey, Florida. Rob creates the rumbling backbone of the sound that is Sweet Oblique, when he is not performing brain surgery on the side on economically challenged marsupials.
Craig Miskey started out in Buffalo NY, playing bass for a number of local cover and jazz fusion bands. In Florida he played bass and provided backup vocals for DVS The Band and Avenue 43 while studying Jazz bass at The School of Musicology in Clearwater.
......The chemistry is fantastic and Sweet Oblique are currently writing songs for a full length album and are playing live as often as possible, perfecting their stage show.. As a group, the band has a wide range of influences including PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, The Verve, Nirvana, Portishead, Sneaker Pimps, and assorted indie underground bands. We hope you like
