"Review of 2007 release "Unbroken""

REVIEW OF "UNBROKEN"

"Suzi's short maternity break has left her hyperkinetic, supercharged and raring to go. Chrispy Chicken has produced and horned with big muscular lines and driving speed. The band is a steamroller of rhythmic mayhem and melodic manpower. The material is fresh and new yet there are enough old Suzi favs that the disk is like an old friend. The songs are rich, high calorie phat busters with the aforementioned horns, Chrispy's keys and John Anderson's tearing ass guitar. From the opening note, rhythm a la Foschino and Pelligrino are Schwartzenegger tough and they make it clear that they're back! "Does Your Wife Know?" shows the real Suzi, driving her band like a naughty stepchild. "Unbroken" is lowdown blue with hints of desperation. A cover of Roger Troy's "Shadows" is funky and hot, only to plunge to the depths on Sam Taylor's "Mama." "Your Mama's Talkin'" rocks with Memphis intensity. I like Suzi's version better that Shemekia's. "I'd Rather Go Blind" shows madame's deepest soul. Her gift is rare and precious and few can express emotion this purely and intensely. Just listen to her heart tearing take on Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child." The disk ends with 2 houserockers. Denise LaSalle's Slippin' Out, Slippin' In" is raw, unpolished power and "The Weight" comes out as funk raver. Unbroken has the heat, the power, the thrust and the blues. Let's see how this baby pulls the strings on the streets."

About Sweet Suzi…..
Witnessing Sweet Suzi live is not just a performance, it's an experience. This powerhouse singer keeps her audience riveted with her unprecedented vocals and captivating stage presence. She brings her audience through an emotional journey from blues to funk. Suzi and her band, the Blues Experience, have been "wowing" fans since 2004 and have enjoyed performing at many music festivals throughout the New York area. Additionally they had been selected to represent Long Island at the 2006 & 2007 International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, TN where they performed on the famous Beale street. The band has just completed their second CD "UnBroken" were they were fortunate to work with the highly acclaimed producer / horn arranger Chris "Chrispy Chicken" Layborne. The CD, released in October, 2007, represented the Western Pennsylvania Blues Society in the 2008 IBC best self produced CD category. The CD is already receiving air play in radio stations from as far away as Australia, Finland, Washington state, Louisiana and New York to name a few.

Sweet Suzi feels that she is not only blessed with the gift to sing and perform, but she is equally as blessed to have a band of top quality musicians. The Blues Experience (John Anderson – Guitar, Tim Glum – Bass, Tom Foschino – Drums) all have impressive resumes on their own and each bring their styles together to make a solid foundation for Suzi's fire and grace.
