Swinging Steaks
Sunday Best

Hmm. What a long, strange trip it’s been. A couple years ago I reviewed KickSnareHat”…this couldn’t be more different. I need to go find that CD again… It took me the longest time to fully settle into this disc. Maybe it’s the East Coast hustle and bustle, maybe it’s my hypertension, or maybe it’s the WMD controversy. Hell, I dunno. I just kept putting “Sunday Best” back into the player and listening. In many ways, this is really reminding me of The Band’s first album. It’s got that kind of a mellow, laidback, summertime feel to it. The CD definitely has those indescribable banjo, fiddle, organ (almost accordianesque),
and lap steel flourishes that add the right spice in the right places. It unquestionably has a much more ensemble feel to it than the previous Steaks’ offerings. I don’t want to say that this disc is more mature…but in many ways it is a next step. This could really be the Steaks finally settling into a groove, it could be some of the new personnel, it could be a lot of things; but it’s all good. Congrats!

Bio

"Sunday Best" Brand new CD from the Swinging Steaks a must for any Americana fan.
A five-man band out of Boston, MA., Swinging Steaks are among the originators of the current roots rock/ alt-country movement. Fueled by dual singer/songwriters Jamie Walker and Tim Giovanniello, the group's material explores a rich diversity of musical Americana from full tilt rockers to mandolin-driven melodies and soulful ballads.
The Steaks' second album, "Southside of the Sky" introduced the band to a national audience with two top ten AAA radio singles and appearances on NBC-TV's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and NPR's "Mountain Stage". Their four self-released albums, "Suicide at the Wishing Well", "Shiner", the live, acoustic "Bare", "KickSnareHat" and their latest release on Blue Rose Records“Sunday Best” have continued to expose the group to new audiences and garner them appearances at SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon and Nashville Extravaganza.
The Steaks have appeared with John Fogarty, The Band, Hank Williams Jr., Bare Naked Ladies, the Black Crowes, Poco, Los Lobos, Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Paul Westerberg, Lynard Skynard, Jason and the Scorchers among others and have toured extensively on their own.
