Bio

Every once in a great while, humanity rewards us with an artist that is truly imbued with a natural talent and a true gift of songcraft. Emerging seamlessly from almost complete obscurity, these individuals are quickly catapulted into the public consciousness by a seemingly innate shrewd ability to encapsulate the human condition in song with their unique ability to blend pop and profundity. Sydney Sprague is an artist that just could be on the verge of a similar meteoric rise bringing a new voice to the universal dilemmas of life, love and the repressed desire to demolish someone's home with a chainsaw.

Born in Austin, Texas, the live music capital of the world, Sydney began her life in an environment teeming with musical activity. It is consequently no surprise that she would migrate to songwriting to make her voice heard. Penning heady tunes with wisdom years beyond her, Sydney began performing in the local Phoenix and LA coffee-shop scene to stellar reviews. Unlike most artists who begin with learning covers of their favorite artists, Sydney chose her own path and wrote original music from day one. With a strong foundation in songwriting and performance established early-on, Sydney expanded her own material and catalogue day after day, week after week while exhibiting a songwriting voice that was earnest, unique, perceptive, alarmingly vulnerable and certainly mature beyond her years.

Releasing her first acoustic EP in early 2008 (the aptly titled You Gotta Start Somewhere), Sydney quickly established herself as a songwriter that defies standard genre fare. Garnering stellar reviews from Grammy-winning writers Gordon Kennedy and Wayne Kirkpatrick, as well as comparisons to widely varied female songwriters such as Katy Perry, Feist and Cat Power to groups like the Paramore and Metric, Sydney's material runs the gamete from strongly emotive folk-music to brash and forceful indie/pop-rock.

Don't be shocked to see this name embedded amongst the heavyweights of the indie-rock scene, crafting a sound akin to other genre-transcendent acts such as Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse and Margot and the Nuclear So and So's. Look to catch Sydney soon in venues across the country, where audiences continue to see a piece of themselves in the words and vision of Sydney Sprague.
