Sylvia’s voice captivates in each and every song from beginning to end. Her soulful sounds of yesterday infused with a contemporary feel that is very modern let her lyrics shine through in songs like the title track, “How Can I Forget.” The singing is smooth but the story told in the song is powerful.

As someone who knows firsthand the victory through Jesus that can come for those who have been used and abused, Sylvia definitely knows how to deliver songs of liberation and love, and above and beyond that she is also a gifted vocal arranger.

Bio

Evangelist Sylvia Addison has been anointed and appointed to spread the good news in both the preached word and in song. After placing her aspirations on hold over 15 years ago to be a 100% mother to her children, Evangelist Addison picked back up the mantle of her hearts desire in 2009 to spread the gospel to the world. God has saw fit to honor and bless her for honoring her vow.

Evangelist Sylvia Addison was nominted as the 2010 Texas Female Gospel Artist of the Year and Winner of the Gospel Music Channel (GMC) 2012 Summer Most Powerful Voice Contest in the Traditional Gospel Category. Her first CD "How Can I Forget" was released on Tate Music group in 2010.

Evangelist Sylvia is the eldest daughter of the now deceased Pastor James Addison, Sr. and "Mama" Mayola McDonald-Addison. She began singing with the family group, The Addison Singers, at the age of five. She is an anointed woman of God that loves preaching and singing. She is also a gifted vocal arranger and songwriter.

She was heavily influenced by her mother's love for quartet groups such as the Dixie Hummingbirds, Sensational Nightingales, Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Blind Boys, The Pilgrim Jubilees, Swan Silver Tones, and other black male quartet groups. Mahalia Jackson, Mavis of the Staple Singers, Dorothy Love Coats, Shirley Caesar, and Loretta Lyn and Charley Pride were her father's favorites. She would sneak and listen to Etta James and Big Mama Thorton. She learned to dive into those husky notes and rise with thunder by imitating them, Mahalia Jackson and Mavis Staples.

In her music you will hear not only the influences of her heritage and these legends, but you will also hear the pain and victory over her past. She infuses her music with toe tapping and hand clapping spiritual vibrations infused with smooth gospel rifts and a little bit of soul and blues.

She is an Associate Minister at her home church Greater Calvary Bible Church under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Dr. Sterling Lands, II. Evangelist Addison understands firsthand the stronghold of sexual abuse, spousal abuse, mental abuse and the struggles of being a single parent. She is a living testimony that victory over these strongholds can only be achieved through Jesus Christ and is a true believer that the anointing of God breaks every yoke. Her songs and messages directs you to a place of liberation found only through the power of the love of God and His love demonstrated by Jesus Christ, God in the flesh on the cross of Calvary.
