Biography

From Logan Square in Chicago, the Syrup Eddies formed in 2005. A blend of pop, rock,
folk, and a little swing, this band creates music evocative of a past that people think they
know, but upon listening closer realize it is unexplored territory. Seemingly uncomplicated
due to its sparse sound and melodic quality, the Syrup Eddies seduce the audience with a
complexity that speaks of pain and loss, but recovers with hope and strength.

Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Margie Criner delivers the band’s own unique arrangements
with a new level of intimacy. More than just a musician, Criner makes contact with the
audience by using the music as a template for her own story. Victoria Beal, on accordion/
vocals, layers the music with melody and atmosphere, while the rhythm section comprised
of Tim Anderson on stand-up/
electric bass, and Tom Mioducki on percussion/vocals build a tight
foundation while adding flourishes.

For all their influences, like Marvin Gaye, David Bowie, Big Star, Prince, and Roy Orbison,
the Syrup Eddies defy categorization. Their broad level of appeal is due not only to musical
content but to the moodiness of the delivery and the charm of its members.

The Syrup Eddies currently live in and perform throughout Chicago.

Lyrics

Misery

Written By: Margaret A. Criner

Oh misery
misery is calling
and the stars in your eyes are falling
on what used to be
now it's only misery

Hard to say
hard to say what makes a good thing die
All your memories
worth more as lies
and you're left with misery

You lead me to believe
a foolish heart is breaking
everything that used to be
only trouble in the making

How long is it gonna be
before a fool heart needs replacing
and all that's left of you and me
nothing less than misery

repeat 'You lead me...than misery"

Oh misery
misery is calling
and the stars in your eyes are falling
on what used to be
now it's only misery.

Goodbye My Love

Written By: Margie Criner

Heavy heart you're too much for me to carry
My tired arms are giving way
to the one thing left for us
Say goodbye my love
Say goodbye my love

In my heart I hold you close to me
but now I see I'm holding broken dreams
One last thing I'll ask of you
Say goodbye my love
Say goodbye my love

It's all the same
We're experts at a losing game
All our history leaves us these three words
Goodbye my love
Goodbye my love

Heavy heart I can't protect you anymore
I'm letting go of all I thought you'd be to me.
Say goodbye my love
Say goodbye my love

It's all the same
Truly experts at a losing game
Now all our history leaves us these three words
Goodbye my love
Goodbye my love
Goodbye my love

Cold Cold Beat of your

Written By: Margie Criner

A cool cool breeze
bites its way across my cheek
Shudder when I see you
Fighting with the clear skies

You reside
in the crystal clear illusions of your troubled mind
I regret
shadows of the love that ever warmed your bed

Without the cold cold beat of your heart
I can finally feel the heat
Without the cold cold beat of your heart
I can finally feel the heat of the sun

Feel a chill walking up my back
freeze in my steps a second before I react
Turn and see you
wrestling with the moonlight

Your full eclipse
bitterly contends with all my happiness
Soon you'll see
You can't hide the moon and you can't have me

Without the cold cold beat of your heart
I can finally feel the heat
Without the cold cold beat of your heart
I can finally feel the heat of the sun

Without the cold cold beat of your heart - cold cold beat of your heart
Without the cold cold beat of your heart - cold cold beat of your heart
Without the cold cold beat of your heart - cold cold beat of your heart
Without the cold cold beat of your heart - cold cold beat of your heart
