Bio

From Logan Square in Chicago, the Syrup Eddies formed in 2005. A blend of pop, rock,
folk, and a little swing, this band creates music evocative of a past that people think they
know, but upon listening closer realize it is unexplored territory. Seemingly uncomplicated
due to its sparse sound and melodic quality, the Syrup Eddies seduce the audience with a
complexity that speaks of pain and loss, but recovers with hope and strength.

Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Margie Criner delivers the band’s own unique arrangements
with a new level of intimacy. More than just a musician, Criner makes contact with the
audience by using the music as a template for her own story. Victoria Beal, on accordion/
vocals, layers the music with melody and atmosphere, while the rhythm section comprised
of Tim Anderson on stand-up/
electric bass, and Tom Mioducki on percussion/vocals build a tight
foundation while adding flourishes.

For all their influences, like Marvin Gaye, David Bowie, Big Star, Prince, and Roy Orbison,
the Syrup Eddies defy categorization. Their broad level of appeal is due not only to musical
content but to the moodiness of the delivery and the charm of its members.

The Syrup Eddies currently live in and perform throughout Chicago.
