"Who is Sy Scott"

Who is Sy Scott? Story by Kemba (Grip Magazine).......... Old schoolers know it as the music of great R&B producers Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. But today, there's a new sound resonating from the city of brotherly love and it's coming courtesy of Rowdy Records rapper Sy Scott, a 24 year old innovator who claims that he'll make a lasting impression on rap music as Gamble & Huff did on R&B. But what's so special about Sy Scott? "My sound is basically 11th grade English," he says. "I take one word and I do my thing with it different ways. I pride myself on being original. It's conceited aggression....It's very conceptual." Sy, who showcases his wordplay on his debut CD, "Sychotic," says he got his record deal with Rowdy the old fashioned way: hanging around the studio everyday until someone finally took notice of his talents. He said when he first met Dallas Austin the Super Producer thought he was a college intern. "He didn't even think I was a rapper because I don't carry myself in the regular 'rapper' way. You know they expect dudes to have 100 bullets wounds and scars and be all ignorant, but that ain't me. I am just real with me." The fact that he has migrated from one music-rich city to another is not lost on Sy Scott. He's just cocky enough to believe he can rep each to the fullest. "To both of them I think I plan to be a major influence. I am not going to be the heart, but I plan to be the aorta or a ventricle. I am going to be something seriously connected to it by the time it's done. Big talk for a new kid on the block, but Sy Scott comes with lots of experience. "The team I am working with right now is crazy. The producers: crazy. The Rowdy Records team crazy. I already had a crazy underground buzz. I been overseas and I been rocking with Erick Sermon and them for years.....I am doing this major shit right now and I feel like when they see it all together, everyone is gonna fall in line. I'm like a breath of fresh air right now, something new." - Grip Magazine
