"Take The Seven - Breaking and Entering E.P."

Hailing from Chesterfield, Take The Seven are an all male five-piece specialising in huge rock and alternative music with delightfully emotional lyrics. On the surface the ‘Breaking and Entering EP’ is a set of three rock tracks requiring the essential fist gesture as you sing along with Dan Molloy, but beneath the vocals are four other musicians that provide a beautifully crafted back drop. Si Redfern (lead guitar) provides tremendous harmonies that interweave Molloy’s vocal range whilst James Hall (rhythm guitar/shouting) plugs the gap making all three tracks on the EP sound so much bigger. Josef Kitson takes on the four-string and also contributes backing vocals that support the frontman perfectly. Dan Hawkins bangs the drums, and that he most certainly does, making them incredibly powerful in the choruses, heightening the sound even futher.
Lead track “Through The Crossfire” is clearly directed at a female, but when has there ever been a rock track that hasn’t?! The first line “She’s got the body and looks to kill, but I’m always the murderer…” is just one example of the astonishingly brilliant lyrics on the EP, and a great intro to a song which sounds very similar to the likes of Futures. “Duchess” is the following track and is very much the ballad of the three, taking on a more acoustic style whilst showcasing Malloy’s incredible vocals. Finally there’s “Ships and Sails” which says hello to more throat vocals providing a nice bit of variety to what could potentially have been a generic, bland “alternative” album from start to finish which is what most mainstream bands today are bringing out. Overall it’s a highy listenable EP, and something different to the indie bands that are so prominent on the Sheffield scene. Emotion, guitars and occasional throat vox, what more could you want?
Even is this hasn’t swung you to go grab the EP then maybe the fact that it is available for FREE will persuade you. Get it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?6tz3zf1ofmj9xji
