Taking Off

Taking Off was founded in the Chicago suburbs in spring 2011.  Bassist, JP Detzner, approached Christian Villamiel(drums) and Nathan Weber(Guitar and Vocals) about playing a show at JP’s middle school. During this time Nathan and his sister Sarah Weber (lead vocals) were beginning to write songs together strictly for fun and Nathan offered the idea of doing the set with her. They all agreed and the first practice enticed everyone as the chemistry was undeniable. The band took the stage in February of 2011 under the name “Do it in DeWitt”.

During 2011 driven by the heart wrenching lyrics of Sarah and the shred styles of Nathan they started to record their first demo “5 Seconds to Take Off” and came up with the name, “Taking Off” during the recording process. The EP was completed by that fall and they began to play local charity events in the Chicago area.

In the beginning of 2012 Taking Off decided to dedicate more time to the band and played local shows twice a month resulting in a small but dedicated following. By the end of 2012 they began to move into the city by booking gigs with Battle of the Bands. In August of 2013 they re-recorded and re-released their song “Look At Me Now” which caught the attention of promoters and radio stations alike; granting them opportunities to play venues like House of Blues, Reggie’s Rock Club and local radio.
