Talabarte - eponymous debut, from Galicia
Saturday 4 August 2012 10:05PM
This Galician instrumental trio is a lovely surprise, even to listeners already aware that flamenco is merely one of many Spanish musical traditions,.

Spain’s ‘green’ Atlantic side does not remotely fit most foreigners’ preconceptions of Spanish music; Talabarte’s approach is audacious yet subtle, respectful, yet very creative.

Talabarte’ (the name refers to a sword belt) is an eponymous debut album, but its makers are highly regarded, seasoned players.

Double bassist Kin García is almost a Spanish equivalent to Danny Thompson – very deft, blessedly free of generic blinkers and equally comfortable with ‘jazz’ and ‘folkloric’ musics.

Qim Farinha plays (and makes) more than one kind of violin. He is a fine composer, too.

Also a fine composer is Talabarte’s excellent accordionist, Pedro Pascual.

The trio’s ‘originals’ and their original approach to ‘traditional’ tunes prove equally rewarding.

Often, it is pleasingly had to believe that there really are only three players.

TALABARTE is a new concept of formation in Galicia strictly based on the contemporary folk and acoustic music.
In this project three essential and veteran musicians within the Galician musical scene come together: Quim Farinha (Berrogüetto) on the violin, Pedro Pascual (Marful) on the diatonic accordion and Kin García (Susana Seivane) on the double bass. - Ring Ring

Bio

After
many years sharing stages and diverse musical experiences, these
three great musicians decide to create their own artistic project,
motivated by their mutual admiration and friendship. Further linked
by their wooden instruments and a common musical understanding, they
put together different concepts along their musical journey:
acoustic, roots, improvisation, timeless adventure, surrealism,
gastronomy being that one the main source of inspiration of the
new album that the group is "cooking" at the moment, mixing
two great universes:
food&music.

They
have collaborated and joined many projects as
Berrogetto,
Marful, Susana Seivane, Uxa, Leila, Xos Manuel Budio, Rodrigo
Roman, ...

After
the release of their first album, the group received a very positive
welcoming from critics and audience. Their concerts are full of risk,
improvisation and forcefulness. Talabarte leave no one indifferent
and keep the movement of the soul and feet.

TALABARTE are:

Quim Farinha: Violin

Kin Garcia: Double
