World beat rhythms--reggae, ska, Afropop--with jazz and blues flavors: "reggae with a 'twist'!"

We play original and cover world-beat music with heavy influences of jazz & blues. When appropriate, we stretch out and jam/improvise a lot, which sets us apart from a lot of reggae bands. Our influences include Third World, Steel Pulse, as well as Ernest Wranglin, Weather Report, Neville Brothers, Little Feat, and Herbie Hancock.

Self-titled CD, Talismen. You can hear samples of several tunes, plus full-length versions of earlier recordings at our website: http://talismenmusic.net

Set List

Sets are tailored to the venue. Mostly original music, starting typically with Nigerian juju or Senegalese mbalax instrumentals, and then a mix of to-the-point vocal tunes and songs that include extended dubs & improvisations.
We do a lot of world-beat versions of jazz classics, like Les McCann's "Compared to What," Horace Silver's "Come on Home," and Paul Desmond's "Take Five."
