"Grammy Award Winner Kendra Foster Hasn't Forgotten About Home"

By: WCTV Eyewitness News
May 3, 2016

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Tallahassee native Kendra Foster may be a Grammy Award winner, but that doesn't mean that she's forgotten about her home and her roots.

In February, as part of a collaboration with D'Angelo and the Vanguard, Foster won the Grammy for Best R&B Song for "Really Love" beating out R&B heavyweights such as Tyrese and The Weeknd.

It was her first major award win in her impressive career.

"I'll sum it up with 'Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!' It was incredible because I didn't know that we were going to win, I really didn't," Foster said of her Grammy win. "I can't even explain the way you feel when you hear it."

Foster came home this week to receive recognition from the City of Tallahassee and Leon County. She's also fresh off of a performance at Tallahassee Nights Live.

Some of the things Foster says she's most excited to see coming back to her hometown? Family and Friends of course, but she's also glad to see the trees and the Spanish Moss, a big change from her current residence in Brooklyn.

Foster, a true Tallahassee original who once roamed the halls of Lincoln High School and the campus of Florida A&M, traces her musical roots to First Institutional Missionary Baptist Church on Osceola Street. Foster also collaborated earlier in her career with local resident and funk legend George Clinton, joining Clinton's long-standing group Parliament/Funkadelic.

Citing social issues and humanity as an inspiration for her work, she refers to her approach to her music as a "multi-dimensional ministry."

Foster told WCTV that her new single "Promise to Stay Here" released in April and that her new album will out this summer. - WCTV Online

"Is Big Ron Wilson Too Sexy For ‘American Idol’?"

Big Ron Wilson is a 24-year-old accountant who’s auditioning for American Idol on Wednesday, January 14. During his on-camera interview, he told all the ladies out there to call him "Big Sexy." He is hilarious and adorable. When Harry Connick Jr. asked fellow judge JLo if she's going to call him Big Sexy, she said, "When the time is right." But can Ron sing?

Femi Nilaja Anderson writes: “That man can sang!!!! Saw him at Tallahassee Nights Live!” Even if he can't sing, American Idol fans are going to want him to make it. Karla Ibarra writes: “if he stay he gonna make everybody laugh in a good way.” - by 2Paragraphs in Culture | January 14, 2015
