Bio

How can you describe a person who thinks life is too short to only be right-handed, craves the freedom lined paper just can’t give, loves leaping, and gets easily flushed over the descriptions of aromatic, flavorful foods? Tammy Rochelle is a canvas of bold color, an eclectic fusion, a wide-eyed adventurer, and all those things come through in her music. From jamming on the porch to conversations with strangers on trains, Tammy finds inspiration for her music in the simplicity of everyday beauty.

“I grew up on the sunny coast of North Carolina, corn fields in the back yard, and learned to drive on a Massey Ferguson tractor. My parents exposed my sisters and me to all kinds of music: classical, Beach Boys, 70s and 80s jams, and told us to dance around and express ourselves. Be free! My first solo was at age three, where I sang verse after verse of an old Easter hymn. I found inspiration from Dion and the Belmonts at a concert at age four, nearly swooned at age six over a hot guitarist, and knew by then that there was no escaping a life of music.

My childhood was filled with music, from formal piano and voice lessons to rock star concerts (complete with “broom guitar”) on the fireplace. I was constantly writing poetry and creating music on the piano, but never really thought of putting the two together until my freshman year of college when I got a guitar and friends suggested I should try my hand at songwriting. That day I wrote my first three songs, played my first concert the very next weekend, and started playing regularly with other bands and musicians.

Some days I am pure passion and overdrive; some days I just want to sleep in, have a nice breakfast, and write some tunes. People often tell me that I have the wide-eyed, open soul of a child. Really, I just thrive on appreciating the beauty that surrounds me and making sure that others don’t miss out and close their eyes to it. My soul feels truly alive when I am sharing my music.”

Tammy’s unique sound fuses elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, reggae, and blues with a rich blend of exotic and traditional instruments. Her pure sweetness of voice and genuine lyrics take you on an authentic musical adventure. She has independently released 4 albums since 2000 and toured in 5 continents including performances at the 2000 World’s Fair and the World Cup Kickoff events in Germany.
