"Tank 7even"

I love hearing younger people playing real rootsy folk music. It reinforces our collective connection between past, present and future. Tank 7even goes a step further, meshing generations of talented musicians and writers in an old style band of family and friends that works on every level. The emotional reinforcement and family values shines through in the material. This level of communication may well be why music entered our DNA in the first place. - Rick Parnell - Ricks Picks

Little Hoss was recorded in a 4hr session at Satellite Studio Perth WA, then produced, mixed and added to by Gary Dobbin in his home studio, The Zincroom. It was intended to capture the simple honest sounds of the band playing and jamming live, thus; Drums, Bass, Guitar, vocals and backing vocals were recorded together live, then additional tracks (Geoff, Doug and Nick) added, (as live as possible), later.
All attempts were made to leave as small as possible footprint on the environment...an objective they feel they achieved by using all the original tracks recorded and recording additional tracks as quickly and efficiently as possible. They have used part recycled card cover, non toxic inks and no plastic. Keeping studio time down, and recording additional tracks in Nannup, reduced the need for travel.
The band is also planning to sell as much as possible digitally, and hope to limit their CD printing.
All songs are written, produced, mixed and mastered by Gary Dobbin.

Very special thanks to; Darren at Satellite, for his friendship, generosity and professional assistance; Denise, for years of friendship and support; Ken, for his love of music and life; Pete for his guitar work on Truth and Love song No 16, (and for having such big hands); and...Jim Dobbin is a good man.
The album cover has been designed to look and feel like a record cover, even the CD has been printed as such. It also includes a 6 page booklet with the song lyrics.

Bio

Tank 7even is driven by the life long music passions of Gary Dobbin.

Gary has been writing, performing and recording music for 32 years, long enough to be now playing and recording with his kids Franca (14) and Bill (11); add friends and collaborators Nick and Doug; and brother in law Geoff, and you have an eclectic group of friends and family that make up Tank 7even.

Bill Dobbin – Drums
Nick Vane – Guitar/Trumpet

Gary Dobbin started his musical journey in late 1978...wrote his first song in 1979; recorded his first album early 1981, at home on the family stereo; performed 3 original songs for the first time in public at ‘The Stables’ folk club in Perth 1982; Performed his first full solo gig in 1983; continued to write and perform through the eighties until 1991, when he and a close friend Mark Seymour...(No, not the Mark Seymour of Hunters and Collectors)started their first all original band, Arid in Esperance; recorded their first studio Ep Poison Creek, getting airplay on the local radio station, Radio 747 and a couple of offers to tour the east coast, which unfortunately didn’t take place. Since then, collaborations/bands that have recorded albums include; The Golebiowski Brothers, Frogs in the toilet Bowl, Sacred Bleeding Hearts (who won through to regional finals of the Next Big Thing competition in WA, and had airplay on ABC radio), Woodybrew (Airplay on ABC Radio), The Sid Jones Experiment, Wellbartlet (Airplay on RTR Fm Perth) and most recently (the) DEAD KELLYs (airplay on ABC, Hot FM, RTR FM radio stations; Nannup and Margaret River Wine Festivals. This band is still together and planning future shows over the summer period). Gary has his own home studio called the Zincroom, which has produced about 12 albums over the last 10 years.

Franca and Bill Dobbin have grown up with a music studio as their back yard...they are both self taught musicians with Franca an accomplished guitarist, Bass player, singer (performing solo for the first time this year at the Nannup Music Festival), and Bill on Drums and percussion. Bill played his first festival as fill in drummer for (the) Dead Kellys at age 9. They are both new to, but competent, piano players.

Nick Vane has been playing music most of his life having studied music at a younger age. His main instrument is the trumpet, however, has taught himself the guitar and is now a more than “good” guitarist. Nick is a teacher at Nannup District High School and a member of the band Woodybrew.

Geoff Wishart has been playing the viola his whole life, playing with the University of WA Orchestra, the Bunbury youth Orchestra and Indroorpilly Community Orchestra. Geoff is the proprietor of the Nannup Hardware Store.

Doug Halstrom has been playing music his whole life. A very talented mandolin player, Doug is also a very good guitarist and banjo player and an incredible song writer. Doug is the main man behind the band Woodybrew and has had the pleasure of jamming with some of Western Australia’s best blue grass musicians.

Tank 7even have been together for three and a half years, performing at the last three Nannup Music Festivals, and numerous gigs at their local Nannup Hotel, and recently, Perth. Their debut 12 track CD “Little Hoss” is not just an example of Gary Dobbins song writing/storytelling, but a compelling example their friendship, musicship, and obvious joy they have playing music together. It’s easy to see why they are well received where ever they play...
