An eclectic mélange of rock, funk and soul, Tanner Horn & The Astronauts Before Breakfast is an edgy and vibrant compilation sure to please all who listen. Undeniably artistic and versatile, Tanner and the gang are a refreshing talent whose creativity and musical ability can be heard on each of the wonderful tracks from their debut CD. "Babble & Beat Review for Sex Rock Debut!"

Tanner Horn & The Astronauts Before Breakfast are fixtures on the L.A. music scene. This is a review of their debut release.

The CD starts with, 'Panica'. Wow, this song will get anyone out of a rut! It has completely shifted my too-early-in-the-morning mood within seconds. There's a bit of a Modest Mouse feel to this song. Hey DJs, play this and watch 'em line up to ask who's playing.

'Hole in My Soul' – This just rocks! Lots of energy and passion. It's like having a circus in my living room, without having to clean up the mess.

'My Perverted Mind' – Another insanely hot track! A mix of Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Steven Tyler, and Mick Jagger qualities came to mind. So powerful!

'My Whole Life' – The train comes to an abrupt stop with this slower song. A good song, mind you. Guys can be sensitive, this is proof. Or was he being sarcastic? I'm not sure. Make it what you want it to be!

'Crazy Days' – Rocks as good as the best of Black Crowes tunes.

'For the Ladies' is the closing track, an acoustic gem.

Bottom line – Highlights for me are the first 3 songs on this 6 song debut. I'm blown away. Tanner Horn & The Astronauts Before Breakfast are supa-starz. Seriously.

"Review by FM DJ Murphy"

Tanner Horn and The Sextronauts, Club Moscow, 10/22/08
"Sometimes the SexRok is good enough to not have to call the day after"

Is it a giant pile of steaming over-hype, masked in a stench of condom wrappers coming straight from the floor of Tanner Horn's own dressing room? Or is SexRok all it's cracked up to be? Club Moscow was about to be our first date. I had heard about their abilities to please, but talk is cheap. From the moment I was in the door, I sensed that something extraordinary was about to take place. The only question being would it feel as good as advertised... Tanner Horn and The Sextronauts descend from five different corners of reality, Tanner himself looking like a sober Keith Richards, circa early 20s. But I digress to true first impressions: astronaut helmets. During a countdown for the show to start, as that mentioned chill of extraordinary was manifesting, Tanner and Ava (harmony vocals and sometimes lead) brandish astronaut helmets that for some reason, don't make me laugh. As a seductress knows just how to remove her silky stockings ever so slowly, they steadily remove their protection, revealing themselves to the atmosphere. The mounting energy from the crowd breathes life into the collective libido of the band and by the time the countdown is at one, they are full-throttle through every song they've got. Oozing sexy from every inch of the stage, Tanner constantly displays the energy and assuredness that only the best of front men have obtained; commanding respect, attention, and your focused enthusiasm towards The Sextronauts at all times, no exceptions. Ava is the perfect vixen in an angel's disguise, providing a sensual and silky counterweight to Tanner's raw and enthusiastic gyrations. If this is SexRok, "hi, my name is Murphy and I'm a SexRok addict." ... What feels like moments later but is closer to 45 minutes, The Sextronauts ascend back to the obscurity from which they came, having expelled everything on the stage. Like a good first time, I feel like we've used each other for the last several moments, but I can't help wanting to try it again. As the next few minutes pass by and I'm hearing the buzz from the crowd, I'm a little jealous at the amount of repeat customers to this musical massage parlor. I'm wondering how long they've been letting these Sextronauts ravage their energy without telling me about it. Selfish bastards, wanting to keep it all for themselves. In any case, I'm left with a smile and that "sure I'll call you tomorrow" feeling, knowing they won't. And anyhow, It wouldn't feel as good the next time if they did. I'm left to gossip with my friends about how maybe they were the best I've had. ... Best of the best- "Do Ya With My Mouth" This track had the most fun combination of the Tanner and Ava juxtaposition, a perfect combination of dirty and sensual.

"Artist of the Month"

An Interview With Tanner Horn

Tanner Horn and the Sextronauts......What a unique name I thought, when I first heard about this band-so unique that I wanted to check them out. I was first introduced to their music through their publicist. She gave me their CD and I was AUTOMATICALLY HOOKED on SeXrOk!!!!! This is not the type of music I would normally gravitate to, but something about the arrangement and lyrics intrigued me so much that I became a bonafide fan! No question about it. I contacted Tanner for the interview, and he has been awesome to work with. He really is the real deal. If you want to spend an evening and see an entertaining show with music that will rock your soul, CHECK THEM OUT! This is my interview with Mr. SeXrOk himself.... Enjoy!

Check out the full Story on the Entertainment page in the ARTIST OF THE MONTH section!!!

VIOLET: Is Tanner Horn your real name or a stage name?

TANNER: Everyone asks me that! Tanner Horn is my real name. I guess it is a pretty good one because everyone thinks it's fake!

VIOLET: How did you come up with SeXrOk?

TANNER: I was at a party in Venice a few years ago and a lady asked what kind of music I play, and I instinctively said "SeXrOk" because I knew I was writing Rock songs, but there was so much sexuality in my music, and her reaction was priceless. She said, "I don't even know what that is, but I want to know." I knew ever since that night that whenever anyone asked me what kind of band I am in, I would always say..."SeXrOk" - I have since trademarked the phrase.

VIOLET: How long has the band been together? What has been the most memorable event that's happened to the band so far?

TANNER: This band is going on a year and a half of being in existence. I have been writing songs and playing live since I was 13. The most memorable thing is always a great live show and the way people react, but I remember getting an email from Kat@KROQ about a year ago, and it said she was going to play "My Perverted Mind" on her Locals Only Show & I flipped! I called my mom right away. That will always stick in my mind. Because I remember recording that CD, and I remember working on "My Perverted Mind," and I knew it was special when we tracked it. And to have those thoughts validated by someone who is so respected in this industry was extremely satisfying.

VIOLET: What made you change your name from Tanner Horn and the Astronauts before Breakfast to Tanner Horn and the Sextronauts?

TANNER: The name change had been weighing on my mind for a few months. It was a combination of the old name being too long and too hard for people to remember and the fact that since we are "SeXrOk," I always wanted that to be reflected in the name somewhere. I remember when I came up with it, it was sudden and instinctive, much the same way "SeXrOk" was, and I knew it was right.

VIOLET: I've heard a few people hail you as the new Mick Jagger with Johnny Depp looks. Can you comment on that? Btw, not a bad combo :)

TANNER: I'm just working with what God gave me!

VIOLET: My two favorite songs (Hole in my Soul and Panica) got a lot of radio play. How do you plan to top that with the new album? Which tracks are destined for radio potential?

TANNER: Thanks. This new CD is certainly different than the last. I think it's edgier-the lyrics are certainly edgier. We purposely didn't play it safe. We easily could've made the same CD again. Loads of bands do. "Someone 2 Love" is the 1st single, and there will be a very cool video out soon for that song. But "Do Ya W/My Mouth" & "Keep Me Up ALL Nite" will be soon to follow and will be fan favorites.

VIOLET: You were spotted at the red carpet on Fashion Week in Los Angeles. Which show did you go see?

TANNER: We were at the Christian Audigier show. I didn't know what to expect, but damn! I was so impressed and inspired and humbled. They turned that runway into a performance on every level. In a weird way I can draw parallels to what he does and what we do. Because people walk in the door expecting one thing, and our job is to do the unexpected and leave the audience with a "WOW! That was an amazing feeling." He did that to me.

VIOLET: Tell me a little bit about your Sextronauts. How did you come together?

TANNER: The whole story is so long, but the short story is this band has seen many incarnations. Half of the people that were in it last year aren't in it this year. Nick Urbom has been the drummer since the beginning, and when we met, he was in a different band and decided he was better off taking his chances with me. Ben Cain has been with me since the beginning as well, and we met at a bar he worked at over five years ago. All the rest of the members were found through the wonderful world of MySpace or Craigslist. Thank God for technology!

VIOLET: Where do you see SeXrOk and the Sextronauts in November 2009?

TANNER: Hopefully, touring the world and in main rotation on radio stations around the - Hollybleep.com

Starting in 2010- 2011 the group has had a trial period of releasing just "Singles" to see how their fans would take to that approach and it has been a tiring year but a HUGE SUCCESS. This has allowed the band to release 5 new singles in that time and keep their sound and style as fresh as their own personal lives! Which is always interesting and never dull with the likes of Tanner Horn leading the pack.

Bio

Tanner Horn & The Sextronauts: Lead by Tanner Horn, part entertainer and part porn star in his own mind, Tanner Horn & The Sextronauts provide a link between glossy, female-fronted pop and the grit of yester-year's rock shows. The band evolves dance-club pop into interesting, memorable, and hook-filled music that can only be described in their own word: SexroK. Keeping up with their recordings, they maintain an exhausting stage show that is more akin to a voyeuristic speed date than a concert. Ignoring conventions while creating energetic music, no one is changing the formulaic soundscape of pop more than L.A.'s Tanner Horn & The Sextronauts.
