Bio

THE POWERHOUSE GUITAR OF TANYA K W/REDSHOES
brings to mind blues rock greats like Susan Tedeschi or Bonnie Raitt. Any performance featuring Tanya’s trio RedShoes is bound to be an occasion to “pitch wang dang doodle all night long.”
The smorgasbord of covers served by RedShoes includes: Slim Harpo’s R&B classic “Tee-Ni-Nee-Ni-Nu,” Freddy Kings’s “Tore Down,” Lucinda Williams’s “Can’t Let Go,” and “Essence,” done as a rock anthem a la cream. Tanya’s gutsy persona recalls the raw emotion and irreverent humor of Janis Joplin as she performs “Move Over,” and “Piece of My Heart”.
“Her songs are more honest than most people ever dare to be,” observes hit songwriter Barbara Cloyd, host at Nashville’s famous Bluebird Café. Also in Music City, Tanya appeared in concert with rock band The Evinrudes and at the World Famous Printer’s Alley with Blues Magazine’s Blues Guitar Player of the Year Mike Holloway; she performed with Grand Ol Opry regulars, Ragin’ Cagin’ Doug Kershaw, Norma Jean and George Riddle, and appeared as an honorary “Daisy Mae” with Ronnie Stoneman; recently, Tanya joined Jonell Mosser on stage at the Gravity Lounge in Charlottesville, VA for a rousing version of Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads.”
Tanya, a published songwriter at Warner Chappel and BUG Music, Nashville, TN, received critical and audience kudos for her atmospheric theater scores for Grapes of Wrath and Buried Child staged at C’ville’s Live Arts and most recently for her role as musical director for Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Urinetown.
If it’s solid riffs and memorable hooks you’re after–ie. Songs that will bring folks to their feet, ready to let the good times roll–then be prepared to boogie with Tanya’s RedShoes.
