THOSE WHO attended the launch of Tanya Mullings' new CD - Music Is My Life' - at the Revival on College Street Sunday night, will attest the fact that she puts on an entertaining and dynamic concert. This will certainly gain her new fans and generate the sales of the CD. The show which started late due to the late arrival of musicians from the Leamington Street Festival was worth the wait. Backed by the Ultimate Crew band that includes several well known Toronto musicians, Mullings took her audience down memory lane by delivering some of her classic hits from previous albums, in addition to several cuts from her 17- track CD. The new CD includes Nuh Easy, I Don't Mind, and Daddy, just to name a few, that were quite popular with the audience. I have watched the growth of Mullings' carreer since she was presented with an award by the City of Brampton several years ago. And I can safely say she has matured as a singer and entertainer over the years and has become a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. One of the highlights of her CD release concert, supported be her mother, who was having a ball on the dance floor, along with Neil Dalhouse, was the introduction of Wade O Brown who joined her in a duet that had the audience in ecstasy. She should be pleased at this point of her career, and as for the CD, it is a must-have for not only her fans, but record collectors in general. As usual Grand Master Rosa of Soul To Soul fame was present to entertain the fans during the intervals in what was indeed an entertaining affair. - Toronto Turntable - Eddie Grant

The verteran muti-faceted artiste, Tanya Mullings, quite literally the "baby" among the the veterans, many of whom were proteges of her late father, events promoter Karl Mullings, turned in arguably one of the evening's most sterling performances. In a sultry on stage appearance, she performed a series of songs including a tribute to her late father. - Fitzroy Greene

"Tanya Mullings Back with a Vengeance"

Appropriately Entitled Music Is My Life, Tanya Mullings' long waited comeback album has hit the world by storm creating waves even Tanya herself many have underestimated. Her fourth compilation, this album is the manifestation of the songstress' last work with her father, music legend Karl Mullings. 'This was my father's last piece of work and I am happy he was able to be part of my comeback." Now a seasoned artist in the reggae music industry, Tanya's musical career can be traced back to the late eighties where she worked under the wings of her father and other regae music veterans. "I was deeply inspired and influenced by some of the veterans in the business; I love and appreciated their guidance because it help to shape my style now," comments Mullings. That style she speaks of has certainly matured over the years and has blossomed into a unique fusion of lover's rock, rocksteady, R&B and dancehall. Undoubtedly a distinctive sound, Tanya has combined her musical lessons with her own style creating a genre that spans any age barrier. Title track, Baby Come Close, has a rub-a-dub undertone remeniscent of Dennis Brown's Sitting and Watching but with a contemporary mix that gives the track a very current sound. Track six, entitled I Don't Mind features Morgan Heritage has a most relaxing sound and is complemented by male and female perspectives on relationships. Let the Music Play and Nuh Easy show a dancehall side of Tanya and reaffirms her versatility as an artiste. but it is tracks like There is a God and Daddy that one will agree are the hallmark songs on this album earning Tanya the seal of approval as a lyricist and singer. Pulling on a personal experience she shared with a close friend and her precious relationshp with her father, Tanya writes and sings these two songs with the soul and vigour characteristic of great musicians. A most professional presentation, Tanya Mullings' Music Is My Life album is certainly her best work yet and has definitely raised the bar for Canadian reggae music. A compilation of sophisticated lyrics, excellent vocals and top class production, this album ably showcases Tanya's growth over the years and has already earned her a 2007 Canadian Reggae Music Achievement Award. She adds, "I am proud of this album; I have grown tremendously and this represents who Tanya is and where she wants to be."
