"The Fountain of Love"

"The Fountain of Love" is a low-fi folk affair, Tape Hiss and Sparkle’s first show-and-tell of the upcoming album, Paperhawk. Different from lo-fi material previously produced by TH&S (on their faithful four-track tape machine), the quality of production was purposefully upped a notch and assisted by The Sleepers' Nic Roos, resulting in a uniquely polished-yet-still-rustic sound. This instrumental arrangement, performed entirely by vocalist Simon Tamblyn himself, paves the way for haunting vocals and marrow-churning lyrics against an Afro-Eastern musical landscape. Grounded percussion foils the emotional lyrics, and makes the song feel authentic and real. - Rolling Stone

Bio

Tape Hiss and Sparkle started as the solo project of Simon Tamblyn. Tamblyn started TH&S in 2009. He was the original vocalist for Cape Town art-rockers, The Sleepers, from 2003 - 2011.

Tape Hiss and Sparkle’s music is described as lo-fi alternative folk and count - along with many local South African acts - Fire On Fire, Elliot Smith and Grouper as their influences.

In 2012, two new members were added. Mandisi Nkomo on drums and Alessandro Busetto on bass.
