To South Carolina, where the speed limits are sky-high but nobody seems in much of a rush anyway, being full of rum smoothies and finger-licking BBQ (speaking only from personal experience here, but). The band is Tape Waves, a young duo from Charleston who’ve managed the feat of landing representation from Manchester, U.K.—Box Bedroom Rebels will put out their debut 7” this summer. But why wait?
A-side “Ready Now” is a bright but finely shaded song, something like a haze of clouds with the sun bleeding through. Kim Hart’s wispy lyrics cascade over the song like one of Beach House’s more playful vocals, eventually sinking below the gently tidal guitar. “Wherever I Go” is the up-tempo flipside, a slice of honey-dipped garage pop.
Bandcamp is offering both tracks for whatever price you care to name, at least for the time being. Can you really claim you don’t need something to tap your toes and hum along to right now? Didn’t think so. - BlackBook
Tape Waves "Stay All Night"
South Carolina newlyweds Jarod and Kim Weldin, a.k.a. the Tape Waves, only started playing music together a little over a year ago after meeting in the workplace, but their fragile yet refined tracks packed with melodic charm sound nothing like casual co-worker jamming. Songs like" Stay All Night" fuse raw, whispered pining for lost love with infectious surf-esque, reverb-infused guitar. The combination is a hazy, beachside daydream. Tape Waves, made up of Kim Weldin and Jarod Weldin, play dreamy indie rock that melts through your speakers. Delicatevocals blanket jangly guitar lines that bounce back and forth. The Charleston, SC duo captures the happiness of a deep day-dreaming session on the beach.
Their beautifully recorded bedroom EP has reached ears all over the world through multiple websites. It was releasedon 7â₏? vinyl via Manchester, UK label Box Bedroom Rebels in July 2013. A cassette version was released on September 2013 via London label Beautiful Strange.
In May 2014 Portugese label LebensStrasse Records released a limited edition 7" featuring a single from their debut full-length album with an exclusive B-side. Their debut full-length album will be released by California label Bleeding Gold Records later this year.
