"Tara Busch - Girl On Fire"

"Listening to Tara Busch’s music is like opening an old chest you find in an attic. You find yourself lost from your day time surroundings as snapshot memories swirl around you, forming pictures and patterns to remind you of a life you haven’t lived. But this isn’t any distant alien world, the warmth and unsought openness of it all leaves you sitting cross legged on the dusty floor, with a smile on your face and skip in your heart".

By Lawrence Brand - The High and Mighty Magazine

"Dynamo Dresden"

Dynamo Dresden were Rohan Tarry, producer of Jean-Jacques Smoothie's 2 People, plus electronics genius Maf Lewis, who spent three months under lock and key for causing ATM machines to pay out at will, and angelic vocalist Tara Busch, who was reportedly kicked out of Julliard School of the Arts in New York for giving the wrong professor a lap dance.

Prior to joining Dynamo Dresden, Tara was a member of American groups Sheva and Dahli Llama. Her journey to Cardiff came about when she attended the Miami's Winter Music Conference in March 2001, where she was looking for potential collaborators.

She bumped into Neil Cocker from Plastic Raygun, who introduced her to Maf. He was looking for a female singer, the three got drunk together, and a week later Tara moved to the rather less sunny climes of Cardiff.

There, she was introduced to Rohan, who had worked with Stereophonics, Manics, Catatonia and Plastic Raygun's very own Jean-Jacques Smoothie, and Dynamo Dresden was born.

Armed with an incredible radio friendly, superkitsch demo, featuring super smooth vocals that would have Dido and David Gray reaching for another vodka, Dynamo Dresden steadily gathered fans for their seductive loungecore tunes, and played in many European cities, including Amsterdam, Madrid, Berlin, Hamburg and Barcelona.

Live, the band played instruments including guitar, bass, flute, Theremin and a various synths and home made electronics. They also performed with the V-Deck, technology allowing a DJ to simultaneously mix vinyl and video images on a standard turntable.

Dynamo Dresden completed remixes for BMG, Parlophone, Echo, Plastic Raygun and BIC-Japan, though they did turn down Whitney Houston. Their debut album Remember was released in May 2004 on Mada Music. - BBC Wales Music

"Pilfershire Lane album review..."

My favourite "find" of the year so far. The brash, poppy analogue opening of the album belies much of the mature, intelligent songwriting that follows. Busch's gorgeous ethereal voice is part naughty schoolgirl, part maneater but at all times breathtaking. And it floats on top of all these tracks, giving them their very heart and soul. When she gives back the time machine that allowed her to record this album with such splendid seventies kit, and in such an effervescent, shimmering fashion, she'll be able to look back on an album that veers confidently between Kate Bush-style reminiscing and reckless Go Team-style sampling. But it works. Although it might take the listener a few listens before they climb inside Busch's head and hear the common threads running through the album, there's no doubt that Pilfershire Lane is a rich and rewarding experience. - Neil Arnott

"Tara Busch - Pilfershire Lane"

"...She has a Never Never Land Kate Bush voice and a command of electronic wizardry capable of constructing a supernatural, secret garden. Tara Busch has melded memory and reverie on Pilfershire Lane into the magic realism of an epic and poetic daydream."

Bio

Move over mountain! Here come the stars!

From the sweetly dark, blizzard-driven imagination of Tara Busch comes her long-awaited album, Pilfershire Lane. It is an album based on a young girl's lonely, melancholic childhood in the 1970's. We journey with her in the seat of her rocket ship in "Over the Radio".... through the tantrum-stamp of her high school marching band in "Superfriends"...We then tunnel to the depths & fill our lungs with day old wine and cigarette ash to find the deep sadness of "Get Drunk & Fuck" until we are thrown a lifeline of profound love, resurfacing with "This is Love"...finally we return where we start, in her bedroom window wishing on stars & distant planets in "We Can See Mars". We never leave her head.

Raised in a looming "mansion full of sadness" on Pilfershire Lane built by her father in Hartford Connecticut, Tara was the youngest in a large family, surrounded with the music of Bowie, Zeppelin, ABBA and Janis Joplin. Discovering her musical talent at the tender age of 3, she went on to form bands throughout her teenage years, including Dahli Llama and Sheva. Many session gigs led her to Miami at the 2001 Winter Music Conference where she met her love and collaborator, Maf Lewis. The pair returned to Cardiff, UK where they formed the deeply revered "lounge-core" outfit, Dynamo Dresden on Plastic Raygun Records with producer, Rohan Tarry.

As tides turned and Maf & Tara moved to North Carolina to be with her family, Tara exiled herself under lock & key for several months writing, producing and engineering what would become Pilfershire Lane. As Tara clamoured away in the studio on one end of the house, Maf set up shop in the dusty, sweltering attic above, creating beautiful, perfectly reflective videos such as "Motorcrash" and "Tag”.

Enter the musical talents of Mike Walters, Nick Speaks & Alex Maiolo - from Minimoogs to Melloman; from Fender bass to whammy pedals & sleigh-bells, these gentlemen were Tara's faithful and adventurous sonic militia.... Finally, in summer 2006, Maf & Tara packed their life into a small U- Haul & traveled west to the glistening Pacific, landing beneath the swaying palm trees of Southern California. Pilfershire Lane crossed her last bridge with the help of legendary mixing engineer, Adam Fuest at Swinghouse Studios in Hollywood. Final mastering was done by Adam in the UK, deep within the wild, bewitching Brecon Beacons at Twin Peaks Studios........"The lights are on, maybe we're home".....

Commencing countdown, Maf rolls his film, Tara pulls the goggles over her eyes; 4...3...2...1...Let's climb the face of space & time!
