MUSIC NEWS: Tara McCormick is ready to fly and the window is open!

A very dear and close friend of mine Kimmy Haven, is a friend of Tara McCormick and her family. Kimmy told me about Tara and now that I've listened to her music; this is what I have to say, "This gal is going to make it big time!" I know a hit when I hear it and it's just a matter of time, before Tara McCormick becomes a house hold name.

She is one of five sisters and has been singing since she was very young. She had once auditioned for American Idol but all things come together to enhance the perfect timing in the window of success. Tara McCormicks window is open and she is ready to fly! I'm predicting her song, That's My Style will hit the top 10 on the country music charts, and I look forward to watching her music career grow.

Tara was born and raised in Chehalis, Washington and presently resides in Seattle, WA. Tara was Miss. Washington USA and finished in the top 15 at the 2004 Miss USA Pageant. She has the vocal strength of Martina McBride, a resonating sound similar to Sheryl Crow and a music style, that reminds me of a female version of Garth Brooks. Her country style has the touch of rock and pop in the background, creating a unique and refreshing sound for the country music genre. She is in Nashville promoting her CD, That's My Style, and we will be hearing more from her.

I have contacted Tara McCormick at her site, and hope to hear from her soon. Her CD was released this January 13, which you can purchase at her site as well.

Check out her refreshing sound

Keepin it Real,

Download it here.

Miss Washington 2004, a Chehalis native, shows off some powerful alto pipes here in a rollicking Nashville country kinda way. On this one she flashes some beauty queen exhibitionism, defending her right to blow you off while being as wild and sexy as she wants to be. Sort of a Shania Twain "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" kind of thing.

"Looking back, going "Far""

Looking back, going ‘Far’

ERNEST A. JASMIN; The News Tribune Published: June 29th, 2007 01:00 AM

Enlarge image PHOTOS BY DAWN After entering the Miss Washington pageant on a whim – and winning – Chehalis native Tara McCormick has seen a continued streak of luck. Her album “Go That Far” comes out today, and she’s in the South Sound to perform in Tacoma this weekend.

Chehalis-raised Tara McCormick didn’t start that girl group her dad dreamed of, but the country-rock singer is making a name by herself. The Jackson Five fantasy didn’t shape up quite the way Tara McCormick’s dad imagined.
McCormick is a rising country-rock star who hails from Chehalis. And when asked about her earliest musical memories, the 26-year-old singer – who will perform Saturday at Point Defiance Park during the Taste of Tacoma – recalled how the wheels in her dad’s head started turning after his fourth and fifth daughters were born.

“Once the twins were born, he was like, ‘Oh, goodness, I have five girls,’” she recalled during a recent phone call from Nashville, where she moved this year. “And then it dawned on him, ‘Hey! I have five girls. Let’s put together a girl band.’”

McCormick was, by her own account, the biggest ham of the bunch. She’d been singing, accompanied by her father on guitar, since age 3. And “he used to take us to karaoke every Thursday night so we could get out there and sing when we were in grade school,” she said. “They lost interest in it, and I never did.”

Well, one budding superstar out of five ain’t bad. And the eldest McCormick girl has definitely given her family plenty to be proud of – not to mention keeping her dad’s pop dream alive.

“They come to all my shows, and they’re very supportive,” she said. “They’re like my cheerleaders. And my dad is very happy with how successful I am. It’s a great family venture. I mean, everyone, every single person in my family, is involved in some way or another. And I think it’s held us together. It’s kind of cool.”

“Kind of cool” sounds like an understatement when describing the ride McCormick has been on since 2004, the year she ran for Miss Washington on a lark and won.

“Running for Miss Washington was just a way to get my name out there,” she said. “And then once I got Miss Washington – and especially once I came back from the Miss USA pageant – I had a fan club. I had people that wanted to see me. So I used that to catapult my music. Every event I did I brought my band with me.”

Thus, McCormick was able to parlay her pageant experience into a local buzz, which reached a feverish pitch after Centralia’s KMNT-FM (104.3) latched onto her debut EP, “That’s My Style.” The disc is a sassy amalgam of country, rock and pop that the singer calls “Northwest edge.”

Then McCormick began contemplating a move to Nashville after she flew there last year and received positive feedback from record executives she met. She and songwriting partner Kim Plancich – best friends since they both went to Chehalis’ W.F. West High School – have been living there for about three months.

“I’ve been going out every night networking,” McCormick said. “I’ve been to a lot of songwriter sessions, and I’ve met up with some really good people. And I guess I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn’t having to start all over again.”

McCormick’s new disc, “Go That Far,” was released today. And don’t be surprised if it’s her last independently released album.

“As of right now, I’m shopping for songs for my next album,” she said. “The goal is, hopefully, to get a deal around November. I can’t name any names, but I’m having to make some really big decisions professionally as far as who I’m gonna be with and what kind of agreement that’s going to entail.”

A series of homecoming shows will reunite her with her backing band, the Gangstas of Love, which she hasn’t performed with since they opened for Asleep at the Wheel at the fundraiser concert for the Washington State Council of Firefighters last December at the Tacoma Dome.

McCormick and company will warm up tonight at the Junction Bar & Grill in Centralia before Saturday’s Taste of Tacoma gig. And her homestand will also include a Fourth of July appearance at Tacoma’s Freedom Fair. See www.taramccormick.net for details.

Tara has chosen Seattle's Tommy Gunn & The Bourbon Cowboys for support, Tommy Gunn rocked the nation in the early 90's as lead guitarist of the famed "WAR BABIES". As the Seattle sound calmed down Tommy came home, got on his Harley and took a much needed reflection of life…fast forward to 2007 and the fun is calling and so is a music fitting somewhere between Honkytonk and Heartbreak as well as well placed youth on the drums and the bass, throw in old friend and northwest concert promoter Southside Johnny on harmonica and a 5 fingered glass of bourbon ….PRESTO! Instant bikerbilly…..the frolicking fun inspired group of songsters delve into the heartbreak of life and love with laughable thoughtful lyrics poured over some old fashioned butt shaking melodies. A truly great glass of live music without the rockstar attitude, let them horses run and bring a designated rider.

"Tara McCormick A Little Bit Country at The Taste of Tacoma & Freedom Fair"

Tara McCormickA little bit country at Taste of Tacoma and Freedom Fair
Posted: Jun 28, 2007 by Angela Jossy

As if she borrowed a pair of Shania Twain’s walkin’ boots, Tara McCormick’s music is country with a sexy rock/pop attitude. If McCormick’s name sounds familiar, it’s probably because she was Miss Washington in 2004, and she made it all the way to the top 15 in the Miss USA competition. Since then she has set her sights on a career in country music and has released two albums.
She has opened for national acts such as Bo Diddley, Ty England, Keith Anderson, Jason Aldean, and Asleep at the Wheel. McCormick has appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman,” Ryan Seacreast, “The Best Damn Sports Show,” “Entertainment Tonight,” and “Evening Magazine.”

She also graced the cover of the May 2006 issue of Quick Throttle Magazine. Her latest album, Go That Far, produced by Grammy winner Larry Gadler, will be officially released June 29. She will perform twice in Tacoma this week: Saturday at the Taste of Tacoma and Wednesday at Freedom Fair. For more information about Tara McCormick, visit www.taramccormick.net.
