Tara Napoli's music is an infusion of hooky electric guitar riffs, dance beats, and synthesizer sounds of which all support the authentically crafted lyrics and melody of Tara Napoli's voice. Influenced by the rawness of PJ Harvey, the mainstream likes of Lady Gaga, and the electronic sensibilities of Radiohead, Tara Napoli has been compared to Bjork, The Cranberries, and Karen O of The YYY'S. Even with such comparisons, Tara Napoli has her own signature sound that is immediately recognizable.
I am a woman who once was a little girl, confused and traumatized by the losses and realities that became known to me early on in life. I searched for meaning, and found that music had meaning and the power to connect us all to a place of love, peace, sadness, pain, anger, union, and so forth. I learned to first sing with my father at the age of 2. He was a songwriter, and I was intrigued as a child to feel such a beautiful expression. By the age of 5, I sang in the church choir and continued through grade school. We always had a piano in the house, so I'd sit down and make sounds. After my father passed, we struggled financially, so we couldn't afford lessons. I just made stuff up. Once I became a teenager, I started to write everyday in a journal. This made writing lyrics that were honest, natural for me. By the age of 18, I was approached by a producer, and he wanted to record me. I'll never forget the first song that I wrote, "This Lifetime Of Memories", came out of me in one take. I'm not saying it was a brilliant song or even good, it just was that thing that I felt I had been missing in my life. The lyrics and melody seemed as if they had a life of their own. At that moment, I knew that music was mystical and magical and that I wanted to make music. And so, I began my journey as a singer/songwriter. I have written and recorded over 300 songs and have 4 albums. I have performed on the streets busking, at dingy bars to more upscale venues across the states from CA to NY. My dream is to open for a band like The White Stripes, Pj Harvey, The YYY'S, Silversun Pick-ups, or any other inspiring band that is touring the US and Europe.
