Bio

Tara Tuma is a study in perseverance. Very few bands can stay together, reputation and professionalism intact, for
more than a decade.

Tara Tuma has been entertaining audiences with their high-energy live performances, top-notch musicianship and a commitment to providing a quality show for both those who hired them, and for those they are entertaining since the spring of 1987.

Born out of a vibrant live music scene born in the high school stages of Newmarket, Tara Tuma was sort of an all star band, pulling together some of the finest young talents and personalities into a band that dominated the local scene for a number of years.

Founded by vocalist Robert Edney and multi-instrumentalist Paul Burdon, the band has always been on the cutting edge of fashion, technology and the music industry.

Edney brings a drive and determination to excel that is rare in the music industry. He also brings an athleticism, vocal prowess and people-pleasing attitude that makes him popular with audiences and club owners alike.

Burdon had not only played practically every instrument a band requires, but is a technical and sound wizard, who often doubles up his on-stage role with that of sound and lighting technician as well as Tara Tuma' top technical
trouble shooter. His laid back attitude belies a true musican's heart, and a man who has a passion for performing.

Over the intervening 15 years, band members have come and gone, clothing and hairstyles have changed dramatically, and Tara Tuma's own style and set list has morphed, progressed and ultimately solidified into the position they
have as one of Canada's top touring retro-dance music-based band.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Tara Tuma built a reputation as one of the best touring bands on the circuit, playing halls, bars, schools, arenas and clubs from the extreme east coast of Nova Scotia, practically everywhere
in Ontario and out as far as the plains of Saskatchewan.

Early in their career they opened for the likes of The Spoons and rap legends Run DMC. They played countless charitable events, acting as spokespersons for a number of drug awareness events, as well as raising money for everything from Muscular Dystrophy research to the Easter Seals.

Their charitable work earned them Citizen of the Year Awards from the Town of Newmarket in 1989.

The band produced two albums, 1989's Greatest Hits - Volume 1' and Sexy World¹ in 1993. Both sold more than 5,000 copies, simply through word of mouth and during their live performances.

The songs, co-written by Edney and original keyboardist Jason Allan (1987 to Jan. 1995) combined funky rhythms, solid production, and memorable musical and lyrical hooks, that were extremely well-received when played live.

The mid-1990s saw excursions to the Middle East, and many more trips to locales such as Montreal, Thunder Bay, Thompson, Manitoba, and Sydney Nova Scotia.

1995 drummer Al Munro came behind the Tara Tuma kit. He added a renewed spirit of fun, incredible carpentry skills, and a work ethic to die for. He ain't a bad drummer either, sliding easily from modern big band hits, to serious 1970s funk and disco, to the latest hits from the pop
charts.

Julian is a contemporary of Rob and Paul, who played with a number of bands over the years. But he's stayed in touch, and acted as a much-needed quality fill-in whenever the band needed him. He also played a role in shaping the future of the band, by recommending Al Munro, when the band needed a new drummer on short notice. And has player Guitar since.

At present, the band continues to tour bars and clubs across Ontario, but has also added a corporate dimension to their clientele. Thanks to their stellar reputation as professionals, they are in demand for private and corporate functions throughout the province.

After 24 years, the Tara Tuma machine continues to move forward, providing audiences of all ages with high-octane live shows, a personable, entertaining personality, and a whole lot of fun.
