Taro debuted as a member of the band Kryzler & Kompany — a trio of violin, bass and keyboards.

In 1996, he recorded “To Love You More” with Céline Dion, which went on to become a No.1 hit, selling over a million records and receiving an award for top foreign single of year. This has led Taro to perform as the special guest on Céline Dion’s world tour between 1996-97.

He has recorded his own compositions with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. His unique sound and collaborations with artists such the Polish jazz singer Basia and Argentinean Forever Tango Orchestra have gained him massive crossover appeal.

In 2007, he recorded a track for “We All Love Ennio Morricone” an all-star tribute album honouring Oscar-winning composer Ennio Morricone. The line-up included artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Andrea Bocelli, and Quincy Jones. Taro has released a total of 15 solo albums through his own label, HATS Records and has composed the soundtrack to numerous movies and commercials. He has also written music for various companies, many of which have supported his activities, including ANA (All Nippon Airlines), Shinsei Bank, Kinoshita construction, and Asahi Beer.

Bio

Taro Hakase, violinist, entertainer and composer has created the musical soundtrack of modern Japan. His compositions can be heard everywhere, from planes to banks, on television and even on computer games. He’s sold a staggering six million CDs in his homeland.

His appeal reaches out beyond Japan. As an international artist he has received acclaim for his work with stars such as Celine Dion, Ennio Moriconne and most recently with Andrea Bocelli. These stellar names have been drawn to Taro’s reinterpretation of classical and popular violin.

Taro lives to perform. He tours Japan, giving up to a hundred concerts a year, both indoors and outdoors, attracting audiences from all backgrounds. These shows are an eclectic mixture of classics, tango, traditional, jazz and even Taro’s own arrangements of contemporary rock and pop.

Following a three year period as guest performer on Celine Dion’s World Tour, Taro decided he wanted to spend as much time as possible living in London, exploring his classical roots. To date he has played nine sell out concerts at the beautiful Cadogan Hall in London — a hall intimate enough to allow him to perform acoustically. He is in active discussions to expand his career internationally.
