Bio

THE TARQ BOWEN TRIO formed only 3 months ago and this unlikely trio have already made waves on the folk/rock circuit. Their original sound has earned them the moniker 'Indie Billy' - but all three members of the band are experienced musicians with a broad swathe of music rep, belying their young age.

Gigs so far include support for Seth Lakeman (Farnham Maltings, March 2011) whilst making a name for themselves at this year’s first Bristol Folk Festival. Their first gig together @ The Bedford (Balham, London) - resulted in Tony Moore enthusiastically proclaiming their music 'Arousing' and 'Rip Roaring'! They are also becoming something of a Tour de Force on their local Brighton gig circuit, with audiences rapturously joining in the hook/chorus lines!

The Tarq Bowen trio consists of:

21 yr old Tarquam Bowen, who had his first composition published and played globally at age 17 years (LIFT MUSIC - 'A new Leaf') when still a student at The Brighton Institute of Modern Music, has also written for sky and channel five, as well as writing for the Trio, Tarquam has spent the last four years song-writing for various bands, with interest from Sony. (Something in the Meantime, Eddie)
He says “Being the main writer for the Trio has been logical and totally beneficial for us, as most bands spend the first 6 months rehearsing and writing. I was lucky enough to meet two outstanding musicians (also writers) who have picked up the songs very quickly, which has resulted in the Trio managing to avoid a lot of the teething problems bands have in the first 6 months.”

20 yr old Jamie Francis - A singer songwriter heralding from the west coast of Maryport - with a fine ear for delta-blues and country. Jamie has taken up the Banjo and crossed over effortlessly from guitar within a few months. He describes the Kelly Joe Phelps style of playing similar to the banjo – “It’s all in the rolls.” The sound is sweet, cheeky & tasteful; adding something different without taking anything away from the songs.

18 yr old Sam Davison completes the sound of the Trio, with his tuneful Irish voice and expertise on piano, guitar, Low Whistle & mandolin. Familiar with the Amricana/Folk ‘Indie-Billy’ sound, Sam enriches the songs with heart-soaring melodies and a voice that took him into the semi -finals of 'Britain’s Got Talent'. (Having chosen not to make up a sob story for the TV program - Sam was taken off the show!) Since then he has been writing whilst studying for his music degree.

Having received an email only a week after their first gig, the Trio are set to sign a publishing & sync deal with Hollywood based company ‘Songs for Film & TV’
“It’s early days for the group and we are already getting invites to play the folk alliance conference in Memphis along with support slots for a great musician, Rocco DeLuca.
- Rocco was picked up by Keifer Suferland and first appeared on the radar in this country in 2005, when he appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show with his then band. Rocco has recently been collaborating with artists such as Slash, Neil Young and appearing on (ex 'The Band' member) Robbie Robertson's latest album.

The next date on our calendar is the Frome Festival with acts such as Turin Brakes and Sandi Thom. We are currently recording our debut E.P and staying on the gig circuit until we can get out to L.A.”
