"HOT TALENT"

She has been compared to Gwen Stefani but local singer Tasha Baxter is resolutely homegrown, and has the eclectic,genre-blending merit to prove it. The quirky vocalist, who you may remember from the Roger Goode's Ferry Corsten it "In the Beginning" in 2002 and "To move you" that same year realsed her own debut album, Colour of me earlier this year. The disk is a spunky mix of of pop, indie-rock,blues,funk disco and even reggae."Its Cock pop" says Baxter... - COSMOPOLITAN

Bio

After several years of carving a niche as one of South Africa’s most accomplished songwriters, vocalists and DJs, Tasha Baxter has stepped out from behind-the-scenes, onto the solo stage and has become one of South Africa’s most innovative and successful musicians of the last few years.

As those in the industry who hold her in high regard always predicted - it hasn’t taken Tasha long to make an impression on the South African music scene. Her debut album has bore the hits, ‘Who’s Sorry Now’, ‘The Journey’, ‘Useless’ and ‘Fade To Black’, which was one of the most played songs in 2007/2008 one many commercial and underground radio stations.

The cherry on top came with having been nominated for 4 top SA music award nominations and taking home 2 SAMA’s for best Newcomer and best Pop. This was followed by winning SA’s hottest artists at the Crystal Awards and 2 nominations for best newcomer and hottest SA artist at the You Magazine Spectacular.

As Tasha climbed the ranks of the South African music charts, she could be found at almost every major event in the country, whether it be with the electronically power-pop infused band, behind the decks at some of the countries most renowned drum and bass / dubstep events or on the vocals alongside S.A’s best including Roger Goode, DJ Fresh,NOISIA, Spor,Vadim,Pendulum,Brookes Brothers,Chasing Shadows,Black Sun Empire many more.

Tasha’s music reveals that she is something of an artful dodger, moving with ease through a head-spinning array of musical genres, among them dance, house, trip-hop, pop, funk, drum n bass and dubstep. Recently she has been working with legendary UK producer Spor, producing fresh new tracks for her second album to be released soon. The new material is even more electronically, pop-tastically spellbinding than her first album and is infused with Tasha’s ‘heart on sleeve’ attitude which reads true to her personal journey in life and penetrates the listener with gripping lyrics and diverse sounds.

Over the past few years, Tasha has built a reputation as a multi-talented artist, Tasha’s live shows are so damn pop-perfect that it took a while convincing people she is local. But once they discover she’s homegrown, her indie pop, electronica-tinged music has rapidly become a firm favorite with fans based in the country and abroad, as the growing demand for live performances testifies to.

But for all its sonic sprinklings, at its core, this is a pop band led by an truly gifted musician. It’s not easy to create a sound that moves through a wide-ranging terrain yet retains a sense of coherency, but Tasha Baxter has been able to do just that on ‘Colour Of Me’, in her new material and in her live performances. Central to this is Tasha’s winning voice. As a result Tasha Baxter is as at home on a pop stage or jazz club as in the depths of a dance club or cascading out of a radio.
