Bio

Music is Tasha Stewart's passion. As a child, music was her escape from the daily challenges of growing up in the heart of New Orleans, LA. A shy kid, writing was her way to freely express her inner thoughts. Her first song she remembers writing was a Gospel tune entitled "Hold Me". Though only 8 years old at the time, the lyrics of her song were written with the depth and structure that would convence anyone that the song was written by a skilled writer: "This world today, is filled with so much trouble. This world today, is filled with so much pain. So each night I pray to my Lord and ask him to hold, hold me." She remembered her father listening to the song with tear-filled eyes. Realizing his daughter's talent, he convinced her to join the youth choir at the Greater St. Stephens Baptist Church and advised her to continue to use the gift that she was blessed to receive. She remembers him telling her "I want you to sing every day and never stop using your voice." She has done just that ever since.

Influenced by artists like Donny Hathaway, Regina Bell, Anita Baker, Miki Howard, Lauren Hill and Whitney Houston, Tasha's writing style smoothly blends R&B/Soul, Hip-Hop and Jazz into a sound that is quite it's own. During her teenage years, Tasha began writing R&B and Pop songs for aspiring writers and producers twice her age. One of her songs, "Giving You All I've Got", written at the age of 16 caught the ears of an A&R rep and was under consideration for the late and great songtress Aaliyah. It was at this point that Tasha realized that her talent as a songwriter should not just be used as merely a personal escape, her songs needed to be heard and enjoyed by its listeners.

Following the advice of her older sister, who was then (early 90s) an aspiring rap artist who was currently signed to Mc Hammer's record label and had personally experienced the ups and downs of the music industry, Tasha decided to complete her college degree to have something to fall back on and acquire the educational background to assist her in understanding the business side of the industry. During her college years, she continued to write songs, focusing on the types of songs that are timeless in content and commercial appeal - studying writers like Bill Withers and the late Linda Creed. Thus, she has built up collection of timeless tunes. in various genres of music including R&B, Pop, Jazz and Gospel.
