Tasleem Jamila Firdausee a beautiful soul filled with infinite creativity and a high energy spirit.
Tasleem’s true mission and desire is to heal the world through her various art forms.
Poet, Emcee, Singer, Writer, Radio Host/Producer, Fashion Designer, Activist, Actress, Musician, and Mother.

At the age of 9 Tasleem tapped into her talent as a writer, and illustrator. The driving force behind her creative process was her mother who was a healer, clothing designer and artist. She grew up in dance classes, piano lessons and just surrounded by music and positive encouragement to nurture her abilities.

Her shy, modest and peaceful presence fools audiences with her big bright smile. When her powerful voice emanates from her soul, she captivates the hearts of her audience. She draws from her experiences growing up on the south side of Chicago, her faith, Native American and African ancestors and world travels. She is an alumnus of Columbia College in Chicago where she studied Theater and Fashion Design. Tasleem is one of the most creative and innovative revolutionary artist of her time, fusing Hip-Hop, Soul, Jazz, Blues and Spiritual influences giving her that universal appeal. Her audience is frozen when she is on stage as she commands their attention even before she echoes a sound; and then they internalize and hold on to her every word.

Firdausee also has traveled and performed across the nation at such venues as Audubon Ballroom in New York City, legendary Velvet Lounge in Chicago, Apache in Atlanta, many Universities, Major Festivals and the list goes on. Tasleem is in demand as a lecturer and motivational speaker on various topics and about her experiences in life, which keeps her busy.

Tasleem has been featured and or shared the stage with legendary artists, such as “The Last Poets,” KRS-1, Lupe Fiasco, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Jurassic Five, Brother Ali, Kindred and the Family Soul, Rock Steady Crew, Illysha Shabazz (Malcolm X’s daughter) and many more. As an activist poet she has written and performed special poetry for the Cancer Society in Chicago and Domestic Violence Organizations.

Tasleem has also studied and performed with Master musician Kelan Phil Cohran. She also has been mentored by musician/composers: Reginald R. Robinson, Khari Lemuel and Kerwin Young.

Even before performing poetry she appeared in the legendary poetry movie “Love Jones” and a featured poet on the upcoming Documentary about the late great Oscar Brown Jr, and a recent cameo in the film “The New Muslim Cool”. With two other upcoming independent films on Hip Hop in Chicago and Women and Activism she stays on the big screen.
