TATCHO DROM stage a vibrant show of beautiful melodies and dancing rhythms from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Inspired by the charisma of Esma Redepova, the virtuosity of Taraf de Hadouks and the humour of Emir Kusturica, they lure listeners into a world of pain and joy, delivering a festival performance that is memorable and exciting for children and adults alike.

Tatcho Drom are considered one of the UKs leading exponents of Gypsy music. Their name translates to True Journey from Romanes, the language of Romany Gypsies . Their broad repertoire includes traditional music from across Eastern Europe and the Balkans as well as their own original compositions.

Band leader Gundula Gruen is a violin virtuoso and singer who has travelled extensively, transcribing melodies that she learned first-hand from Gypsies and folk musicians. Described by Songlines Magazine as a shining star in the UKs Balkan music scene, her unique performance-style showcases a technical ability acquired through intensive conservatoire training as well as a colourful and charismatic personality. Her compositions, whilst drawing influence from her love and extensive knowledge of Romany Gypsy music, are original and highly personal.

Tatcho Droms principal line-up features a multi-national quintet of dynamic musicians. Their dedicated festival repertoire is chosen and arranged to get festival audiences up and dancing. Past festivals include the main stages of the Rhythm of the World and Crawley Festivals, as well as intimate, un-plugged performances such as the Canterbury and Corsham Festivals.

For festivals that hold participatory events, Tatcho Drom also deliver workshops in (Balkan and Eastern European singing, percussion, music and dance.
