Bio

What Became known as Taxicab Racers began in the small town of Dayton, TN. Singer Michael Roddy's experimentation with drum workshops and sequencers segued into a simple bedroom electronica project. As the project gained focus Roddy decided to relocate to Chattanooga, TN. Intrigued by the city's growing art scene, Roddy shaped his little bedroom project into a more full band production, eventually adding the presence of long-time friends Adam Newport (bass), Josh Dillard (drums), and Nate Zensen (guitar). The full band dynamic opened up the door to wider orchestrations of the songs, and at this time, the sound took on a more ambient, dreamy aesthetic.

Keeping their hopes alive and thirsting for bigger opportunities, the band moved to Nashville, where they currently reside. Soon after moving, they met Chad Howat of Paper Route and immediately entered the studio to record their EP, "Hunter/Beggar". The result is the culmination of years of methodical songwriting by Roddy, who retains the philosophy that a song can exist on one simple instrument or within vast layers of production.

The band takes its cues from New Order's synth-heavy dance aesthetic and the dark, dreamy fantasy world of Cocteau Twins and dresses them in catchy, atmospheric guitars and pop-sensible melodies ala Passion Pit and Phoenix. Beneath the surface of swirling arpeggiators and lush synth pads, you will find a humble pop song full of introspection. With "Hunter/Beggar", Taxicab Racers sonically create a tangible feeling of a heart's longing and the optimism involved in the chasing of its dreams.

The band continues its pursuit in 2011, writing new songs and developing their collective vision of dream pop.
