Bio

TAYAZAWAN AKA ZION BIO

Little Zion as he is known to his friends and family, is hailing us from in the enchanting islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Born Roger Combs on November 13th in the Eastern part of the island, Tayazawan grew up in a musical home with his legal guardians. He has the support of all his family and close friends in his home town, Laventille and Movant. Tayazawan has been fortunate enough to perform in Best Village, a local folk song and dance theatre. At first glance, you will see a very humble and conscious man, when you take another look you will reveal an amazing artist on the rise.

He says “I was a part of a band called Signs int’l in 1997 we performed at various local venues that year. After the carnival season I visited an engineer buddy of mine named Daryl Braxton who worked at Engine Room Studios. At the time he was the producer for Chilli D and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. This gave me a way into the music scene. I also had the pleasure of performing alongside artist such as Berbise, Zoelah, Ronnie Macintosh, Bunji Garlin, Maximas Dan, Buju Bantan and many more. In 2000 I performed at the Soca Monarch competition alongside Scrunter“. Tayazawan has been and songwriter – performer since 1994.

Maintaining a constant line of commitment to his industry and his community, he started to fine tune his career by entering the Cocoa Cola School Tours to bringing awareness to a crucial cause like HIV/ AIDS. During the tour he performed at venues like Upper Level, Spectacular Forum, Petro Tran and Bryan Lara Promenade. With his great love for music and performing arts, a humble Tayazawan does not feel too large in his industry to reason with the local youths about violence in their communities, using his God given talents, he says “ spread love to all and don’t leave any of God’s children undone”. This is truly an artist with uncensored possibilities.

Tayazawan migrated to the US in 2003, there he met up with his friend Cherry who invited him to the studio where he worked. He recorded his first US track entitled ‘Found Love’; he linked up with another brethren Howard Hughes who helped him to network for shows in the Brooklyn and riddims area. He then recorded he first video entitled ‘Love Joy and Harmony’. Now that he was enjoying the love and culture of music in the US, around 2006 he started to perform on stage shows with band such as Request Band, Evolution Band and artist like Khari Kill, Jah Bami, Jahspa, Lyrikal and many more.

During his performance at an amateur night in Brooklyn named ‘Dat Nah Mek It’ he met his current management Empress K Inc. in 2007. Tayazawan is currently recording at Ahtik Studios in Queens NY, where he is finishing his debut album entitled ‘Fire Fi Bun’. He still resides in Brooklyn with his family. Look out for his album coming to a store near you.
