"Taylor Grocery Band's electric catfish music"

"The latest branch of a remarkable musical tree that has flourished in north Mississippi over the last decade or so" - An Honest Tune

"Kimbrough is a musical name to be respected"

" Kimbrough is a musical name to be respected in these parts and for the Taylor Grocery Band, drummer Kinney Kimbrough is the big man with the rumble in his hands."
" A lot of folks remember guitarist/ mandolinist/ banjoist/ banjoist/ accordian player/ songwriter Tommy Bryan Ledford as the cute one in the Kudzu Kings. He is more than that. This guy puts the grocery in Taylor Grocery Band."
"Max Williams on the strings puts me on the ropes. His playing live is just one of the pleasures of the Taylor Grocery Band, but another matter of pleasure is their self titled first C.D." - The Local Voice

"Taylor Grocery Band is a well greased unit"

"Women Make A Fool," "Down Home Girl," and the sublime "One Black Day" are the triple shot opening the disc, and making obvious the Taylor Grocery Band is a well greased unit who can take the songs and show that they are professional musicians who can blend nuggets of rock and roll with country and gospel into the unique marsala that is the Taylor Grocery Band. You can even hear zydeco in there (the white trash northeastearn Louisiana kind). - The Local Voice

Oxford’s Taylor Grocery Band makes film debut

The Oxford-based Taylor Grocery Band makes its film debut in Come Early Morning, a movie written and directed by Joey Lauren Adams and starring Ashley Judd.

The romantic drama about a Southern woman is scheduled for release in limited markets today.

The Taylor Grocery Band plays the band at a Pentecostal church in the movie and also has two songs in its soundtrack, alongside the music of Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and others.

Adams, an Arkansas native best known for her acting role in the 1997 film, Chasing Amy, lives in Oxford.

“Joey had a copy of our record and really loved the gospel songs,” said Tommy Bryan Ledford, who plays guitar, banjo and mandolin in the band. “She asked us to come pretend to play our own songs. So we’re in the movie as actors pretending to be musicians, which wasn’t a stretch at all.”

Band members don’t have speaking roles. “Just singing,” said Ledford, who lives in Jackson.

The band also will appear in several scenes of an independent film, Glorious Mail, shot in Oxford and scheduled for release in the spring, Ledford said.

The Taylor Grocery Band’s next Jackson performance is Nov. 22 at Martin’s.
