Bio

Tayo Joyce, an eclectic singer, songwriter, musician, composer and producer, grew up in the Los Angeles area for most of her life and currently resides there. She has a unique blend of electronic music that combines synth pop, downtempo, electro clash, ambient, jazz, rock, classical, neo-soul and other genres. Outside of being a musician, she fixes and writes software, designs (graphics, interiors & exteriors), participates in triathlons, illustrates and paints.

With humble beginnings singing in school, church and gospel choirs since she was a teen, she branched out and became well versed in different styles of music.  In 2001, she recorded with Jason Soto from LA Symphony, a local hip hop group. A couple of years later, she started singing pop songs in a local cover band called Know Roolz. And, she became one of the lead singers in a pop, rock, R&B, and funk cover band called After Hours. Desiring to take her singing to the next level, she started singing and performing classical music at Santa Ana College. And, within a couple of years, she started singing as a solo artist for Santa Ana College, and as a section leader in choirs at  Rancho Santiago Canyon College, The Rock Church, and Laguna Niguel Presbyterian Church.  She was a vocalist in The Rock Worship’s “God Will Reign” live video and audio recording. Currently, she’s working on her debut album and she sings weekly on The Rock Church’s Worship Team as well as the Rock Choir, which covers styles ranging from Contemporary Christian, to Gospel and even Classical music.

A lover of music all of her life, Tayo Joyce learned how to dance before she could walk. She constantly explores new types of music, and enjoys it more than anything else. It is the perfect medium in which she conveys her ideas, thoughts, and emotions, and is happiest.

Born in Washington state (to immigrant parents from Nigeria and South Korea), she picked up a melancholy and pensive temperament like the weather in Seattle. Later on, her family moved to the diverse and beautiful Los Angeles area when she was seven. In this inclusive and accepting environment, Tayo Joyce started to express herself by playing the flute, piano, and singing. At UCLA, she got exposed to (and grew to like) many different genres and styles of music from all over the world and from different periods, through UCLA’s Ethnomusicology and Music Departments. After finishing at UCLA, Tayo Joyce fell in love with creating, arranging and composing music while studying music at Santa Ana College.

Tayo Joyce enjoys collaborating with other musicians and artists. While in After Hours, she collaborated with the bassist and guitarist, Shawn Graham, to create original songs. She also co-wrote the opening song in The Rock Worship’s latest CD “It’s Only By Your Grace”. As a guest artist at Santa Ana College, she has arranged music for and performed songs with her friends. When working independently, she thoughtfully formulates songs from her diverse musical styles and background and is constantly experimenting with different sounds.
