"Chromeo and Team Canada DJs - CODE Live Night Life"

“Chromeo’s P-Thugg and the professorial Dave 1 deliver retro-flavoured music
that still sounds fresh. The Montreal duo, one of Canada’s fastest rising new
acts, has a disco-reborn sound that is dripping with reverb, luxurious harmonies
and real-deal songcraft.

The Team Canada DJs — DR One and DJ Grandtheft — have quickly
established themselves as Canada’s top club remixers. Their four-turntable party
set mixes tracks that simply do not seem to belong together, but they keep dance
floors packed and bouncing at clubs around the world.”

"Team Canada DJs: When we win gold, the world will hear it"

[If you hear this man singing at the Olympics, you'll know we're doing well. Luke
MacGregor / Reuters.]

By Ben Kaplan, National Post

Team Canada DJs patriotism is always appreciated, but, at the Olympics, it feels
like a call to arms.
“When we started, it stemmed from the Canadian artists moving to the States,
pretending to be Americans,” says Aaron Waisglass, a.k.a. Grandtheft. “We said,
‘One day we’re going to export our music.’ Since we’re huge hockey fans, why not Team Canada DJs?”
Grandtheft and his partner, DR.One, play the medal stage in Whistler, which
means if Canada takes a prize, Team Canada DJs will program what the world
hears. “My mom’s freaking out,” Waisglass says. What should the world listen out
for? Grandtheft took us behind the tunes.

The Tragically Hip, Ahead by a Century “Unknown in the rest of the world and loved in Canada, The Hip are quintessentially Canadian. The song’s chill, but even in America, they love it in the clubs.”

Neil Young, Heart of Gold “Gold, obviously, for the Olympics. We have a remix
of Rocking in the Free World, but Heart of Gold is the perfect song.”

The Guess Who, American Woman “People think it’s a Lenny Kravitz song.
We’re taking it back for the home team.

Arcade Fire, Rebellion. “Because of the kick, you can only picture this in front
of thousands of people. Arcade Fire’s the best live band. I spent two hours
watching them live on YouTube today.”

Rush, Tom Sawyer “Everyone in the world knows this song.”

Gary Glitter, Rock and Roll Pt. II (The Hey Song) “It’s known as ‘The Hockey
Song,’ but it’s going to be an amazing call-and-response record at the Olympics,
too.”

Paul Anka, My Way “I think athletes can relate to this song, I know I do. You
work so hard and fight for so long, and then, to win a gold medal in Canada? This
song says it all.”

"Team Canada DJs Video-Blog their Olympic Adventures"

The aptly-named Team Canada DJs just spent the past two weeks providing the
soundtrack to Vancouver's Winter Games, spinning records in their Olympic ring-
adorned DJ booth at the nightly medal ceremonies, playing alongside the likes of
Chromeo, Deadmau5, Keys'n'Krates and MSTRKRFT and, of course, proudly
watching Canada take home the lion's share of gold medals.

In between all that, Grandtheft and DR.One found time to video-blog their
Olympic adventures for Spinner. Watch Team Canada talk to MSTRKRFT's AL-P
about his entry in the alcohol-ympics, fire off t-shirt guns, hang with All-American Rejects and lay down serious beats during a fiery snowboarding exhibition.

Canadian humour meets sick beats in Team Canada DJs Prior to Team Canada DJ Crew’s Jan. 29 show at Scratch, the venue’s Facebook page read, “Changing the world — one dance party at a time.” They delivered on their promise in Saskatoon. Even a former English professor of mine was taking in the sonic greatness of Team Canada’s irresistible, dance-inspiring electronic beats that were often mixed and mashed up with mainstream rock and hip hop. Minutes later, after witnessing the full exposure of an intoxicated hipster’s breasts in a graceless attempt to bum a smoke off a friend, I realized Scratch had congregated a perfect blend of various crowds.
On their way to the Olympic celebration in Whistler, B.C., Team Canada DJs were playing at Scratch for another special reason. Friends with owner Neil Malik, Team Canada played in conjunction with Malik’s 30th birthday celebration. Malik used the mass turnout for his birthday bash to raise some money for Haitian earthquake relief by setting up a contest that would end in a staff member shaving their head for the
cause. Since breaking onto the DJ scene, Team Canada gained popularity and added The Eh! Team by signing four of the best Canadian DJs: Hedspin from Vancouver, Pump from Calgary, Jr. Flo from Toronto and Illo from Ottawa make this exclusive group Without a true sense of Canadian humour their new mixtape would not have been complete. Listeners will find that Team Canada mixes are comically sprinkled with brief anecdotes from Will Ferrell flicks and poutine quotes about Canada from the infamous Broken Lizard film, Super Troopers. Fame seems to be finding this four-turntable act with relative ease. Team Canada recently played at one of Paris Hilton’s birthday party. Team Canada has also recently signed with
the late DJ AM’s Los Angeles label. On a recent 22-track mixtape, Team Canada legitimizes their claim by having Canadian hip-hop mogul Kardinal Offishall to host and drop a few samples. The mixtape merges the hip hop sounds of Drake, Three-Six Mafia and Ying Yang Twins with rock ballads by the likes of the Tragically Hip, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Maroon 5. In addition to a few jokes about beaver, Team Canada DJs’ high tempo and upbeat remixes will make you feel a hell of a lot more patriotic than the Olympics are going to trick people into becoming in approaching weeks.

"Team Canada DJs"

What better soundtrack to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics could there be, than a
dynamic duo called Team Canada DJs? Grandtheft and his partner, D.R.one
played the medal stage in Whistler for the entire Olympics, except of course to
attend the Gold Medal Men's Hockey Game where Team Canada took the Gold
and sent this country into a full-on frenzy!!! Golden boy Crosby scoring the
winning goal in overtime to beat our favourite rivals, the U.S. of A. Some might
call that fate. These boys even have their own Jerseys! Everything Team
Canada was Gold in Vancouver and TCDJs take patriotism as a plight.
Their music is modern but their roots are in Canadian classics like The Hip, Neil
Young and Rush which they weave into their "Classic Material". Flexing reverb
and beats into everything from Maroon 5 to Johnny Cash, they can move a
crowd. They rock MIA so we like them but I wish they'd go back to the oldschool
hip-hop over the commercial urban jams. However, TCDJs have a broad
knowledge base of material which makes their mixes unique and diversely
accessible. Catching up with D.R.one on the eve of Team Canada's Gold, he
told me a highlight for them besides the obvious kicking ass of Canada at the
Olympics, was to play with Chromeo - one of our all-time fancy footwork
favourites also!!! ...and of Montreal. They also played alongside killer Canadians:
Deadmau5 and Mstrkrft. GO TEAM CANADA GO!!!!

They are coming to our town of Toronto March 11 - 13, but we're not meaning to
be "Torontocentric" so check out the site for a destination near you:

"Little Boots // Winter Pride // Team Canada DJs // A Night In Athens // Gay Top Model // DJ Pandemonium"

Nine months ago, the first issue of V-Rag hit the stands in Vancouver. In
that time, I could have had a baby (maybe not physically), and that's how
this publication has felt. Month after month, we got better and more
mature, and although we're still a very young magazine, I'm proud of the
little arts & culture rag that could. Continuing the trend of high profile
features, we're excited to have an exclusive interview with British electro-
pop sensation Little Boots! Not only did she release my favourite pop
album of 2009, Hands, but she's extending her North American tour to
include Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and L.A. this month.
Lucky us!

Also featured this month, home-grown stars Team Canada DJ's chat with
us about their whirlwind month of being the soundtrack to the 2010 Winter
Olympics here in Vancouver and in Whistler. And speaking of Whistler, it's time to get your boots and bindings on and head up for WinterPRIDE
2010! We have the ultimate guide to all the parties and events that you
don't want to miss. March also marks our biggest photo shoot ever, with
the boys of Gay Top Model and photographer Ian Sheh. Check out their
apres-ski apparel, choose who your favourite is, and don't forget to attend
the finale on April 1 at Celebrities! It'll be a great show that will benefit the
Friends For Life Society. Joan-E will remind you just why that's so
important in this month's Joan-E's Rag, along with our other regulars,
music and movie reviews, and the debut of The Third Kind by Justin
Meisner. Have fun, and play safe in the snow... If you can find any.

Bio

Originally a battle DJ, D.R.one linked with producer GT in Montreal. Realizing they had a creative style of party-rocking DJing in common, the duo began throwing parties all over the east coast. Eventually they formed the Team Canada DJ Crew in late 2004 and released their all-remix whitelabel debut "Classic Material Volume 1". Team Canada have quickly established themselves as Canada's top club remixers and party DJs. Blazing some of the hottest clubs worldwide with a unique mix of music, they have made their mark with a four turntable party set. People who have ever been to a Team Canada party, know that you leave having partied hard, cheered hard, and danced to music you never imagined mixed together in the same night...

In the Fall of 2007, Team Canada signed with DJ AM's management team in LA joining a strong team of AM, A-Trak, Steve Aoki, Eli Escobar, Stretch Armstrong, DJ Spider, DJ Fashen, Kevin Scott and DJ Scene. That same year, Team Canada signed 4 top DJs in Canada including Jr. Flo (Toronto) Illo (Ottawa) Pump (Calgary) and Hedspin (Vancouver), forming their own crew/management agency: The Eh! Team.

The buzz surrounding their street mixtape series Classic Material has been unrivaled by any other DJ mixtapes in Canada. This release features all-exclusive remixes by Team Canada and has been praised worldwide by the media, the industry, and party-people alike for its originality.
