Ted Alan and Rob Smith have been playing jazz together since the early 1990s. Both former associates of the great Sherm Mitchell. 

After resettling from Tempe Az to  Michigan Ted reconnected with  Rob and formed Ted Alan and the Underprivileged with B3 virtuoso Cliff Metcalf and drummer John Lindy.

The band has performed around Northern Michigan since 2018 and in the summer of 2022 toured Northern/Western Michigan 

This season they will be adding Flint saxophonist David Huber on selected dates.

Ted, a Flint area native, resided in Tempe Arizona for 30 years playing Jazz/Blues in Bars. Restaurants, Resorts and also producing live events in public places and produced concerts with greats Mose Allison, Herb Ellis, Tal Farlow, Mundel Lowe, David Murray among others.

Rob Smith is  the virtuoso jazz horn master of Michigan  and director of jazz studies at Central Michigan University.

Cliff Metcalf is one of the great Mid-Michigan B3 Players of our time.

John Lindy is northern Michigan's leading Jazz Drummer.
