"the famous wannabes release their new cd"

The Famous Wannabes. Reviewed by Oliver X
July 2008: The Famous Wannabes are
making a bid to bring strident, lyrically
progressive rock back with a
vengeance. Two of the four standout
tracks on their new EP, "Government
Fools" and "I Can See the Devil,"
suggest the group has a long and
prosperous future ahead of them.
On "Government Fools," solid
percussive work on the floor toms, and
a wicked lead guitar figure
underscores an impressively crafted
piece of protest rock. The track recalls
the energy of Billy Joel’s "We Didn’t Start
the Fire," and the political conviction of Aussie rockers Midnight Oil. Wannabe
lead vocalist, Suede, wails in a raspy growl, "Washington lies to the people as if
we are blind."
"I Can See the Devil" is a catchy power pop ditty, with well executed verse
structures. Though the bridge segues are poorly realized, the energy of the cut
holds the listener’s attention. The production is accomplished, and the doubled
lead vocal tracking (possibly done with a vocal harmonizer) is pleasing. The
lead guitar solo recalls the tone and feel of Ulrich Roth of Scorpions.
A full-length record from the Famous Wannabes will no doubt require a refocus
on the basics of song craft and development, but all the elements are there for a
potentially powerfully impacting market entry from an excellent local talent. Look
for live performance dates from The Famous Wannabes this summer and check

Bio

TED Boyce is the lead singer, bass player, and songwriter of  TED & theStartup. Having grown up in America's epicenter of Rock, Gainesville Florida, TED has played alongside of other Gainesville greats such as Ken Block from Sister Hazel and Nashville's Britton and Jack. TEDs formal musical training includes time at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music which ultimately led to a Bachelor of Music in performance at the University of Florida. Live playing experience and formal training has allowed TED to tour the globe as a working musician playing; jazz, rock, and pop for many years before deciding to concentrate on his original music starting in 2002. TED life experiences has led him to write such notable tunes as Jealousy and Hollywood Sign which were released in the EP "Free Admission" under the group name the Famous Wannabes. TED relocated to San Francisco in 2008 from Reno, and began organizing a new Band, TED & theStartup. Their self titled album was released on iTunes in January 2016. TED summarizes his desire to play music this way: "Music was my first career. Combined with my experience in performance, delivering keynotes and teaching adults, I am able to create an environment where people can be entertained and enjoy their learning experience. Fun and memorable content is what we are all about. Played by request only, we use this philosophy to perform mash up versions of some classic covers as well."
