Bio
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Tee-Jay, the self proclaimed “Ghetto Will Smith blends raw hip-hop, bouncy beats, and Christian spice; to create music that can be appreciated by all. Kanye West has paved the way for positive hip-hop to receive commercial appeal.
I plan to add a new element and push the envelope of hip-hop with innovation and controversy. My musical style is not simple nor complex but simplex; it's easy to understand, yet profound and in-depth. With original and radio-friendly lyrics, I can create music that can destroy generational and cultural barriers.
After winning numerous hip-hop battles in the local Pittsburgh area, he was barred from battling, and was voted on as a unanimous judge in all future battles. Tee-Jay’s distinctive method caught the attention of the public, after selling 5,000 units of his renowned underground CD “Da Burgh Strictly”, I moved to California to pursue a career in music.
The fruit of my labor: a Top-100 semi-finalist in the 2005 Disc Makers Independent Music World Series, “Da Burgh Strictly” was voted as the official anthem of Pittsburgh in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; also featured in San Diego’s Today’s Local News numerous times, I’ve also done the intro to the San Diego’s 98.9 FM Who-Ride Mix Show.
I’ve performed at the Shadow Lounge, Pittsburgh, PA, the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas; The Underground Movement: Volume 1 & 2, San Marcos, CA; 10th year Anniversary, Ambassador Family Church, Oceanside, CA; Summer Fest 2005, Salt Lake City, UT; Summer Explosion 2005, Oceanside, CA; 3rd Annual Men’s Advance Conference Pine Valley, CA.
In addition to recording and performing, for the past 3 years I’ve been hands-on in the community reformation movement of Oceanside, CA, as a volunteer for the Community Ambassadors, which advocates anti-drug and anti-gang slogans to the youth. I also perform surgery weekends at Fresh Start, a non-profit organization that provides free surgery to low income children with physical abnormalities.
With me being accepted I would bring a unique sound full of creativity in the over-saturated music industry. I believe that hip-hop can be used 2 ways: either a weapon that destroys or a tool to build. As artists we decide if we decide if we destroy or build, I choose the latter. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my music.
