"TEENS"

Teens are from Boise, Idaho. They recorded their self-titled psych low-fi rock record in a very confined underground Cold War-era bomb shelter just outside of town, with some dilapidated equipment, two mics and a ‘first take is often the best take’ recording philosophy. The result is a very effervescent, explosive and authentically garage 9-track record. They sound like The Animals but who cares ? These young guys are real and so refreshing ! - Spirit of Eden

"TEENS"

need a bit of a wake up? a sonic jump start to the day? well here's a wonderfully energetic et rowdy garage rock-stained track, Reasons from Boise-based lo-fi garage/psych rock outfit TEENS off their self-titled album "Teens" (2011).

Reasons is a musical slap in the face, a rapturous, scuzzed-out, scrappy angst-laden, 60s-tinged garage/psych rock track, these guys are doing what most of us only ever sit around thinking or talking about, getting up there et expressing ourselves, saying something that desperately needs getting off our chest, it just so happens that thrashing away on an instrument et screaming into a microphone is one of the best forms for unleashing pent up frustrations, et that's why music is one of the greatest cathartic expressions we have, et Teens manage to brilliantly capture that raw, unfettered, euphoric act of noise-making that sometimes needs to happen in order to move on. Reasons certainly makes for one hell of an album opener too, yet it's not all these guys have to offer, trust me, you're gonna want to crank this one up real LOUD! - I Nearly Died Of Boredom

"BLEEDING EDGE: TEENS BRINGS SOME FINE SURF PUNK"

I pushed play on this self-titled debut album, and immediately started rocking out to the surf punk sounds of Teens. If you’re familiar with bands like Surfer Blood and Wavves, Teens is in the same surf revival genre. Teens mixes together super muddy guitars, a driving surf beat, and a little psychedlia for a great sound, and terrific debut album.

This Boise, ID surfer band was started in 2010 with friends David Wood (guitar/vocals), Christopher Kolody (guitar/vocals), Gabriel Rudow (bass/vocals), and Dustin MacFadden-Elliott (drums) who got together to play music as an outlet. As the band puts it, their music is; “a type of reaction against being bored and having to go to work or school everyday.” Their unique rehearsal/recording space is in an echoey, Cold War era bomb shelter. This is the same place where they recorded their debut album, mostly in one take, “with a severe lack of professional equipment,” adding to the already raw sound.

Teens is known for delivering the goods during their live shows. In fact, the band recently played a gig at the Boise Knitting Factory and rocked it so hard that they reportedly got themselves banned from the venue, and told the staff some version of “F off” about 25 times. That’ll do it!

Check out "White Devil," and "Die with You" below. Have a listen at their bandcamp, and FaceBook pages to the right to support the band and download the album. - In Your Speakers

"Idaho's Got TEENS"

When was the last time you checked into the wild world of Boise garage? Don't miss the train this time, it only goes there once every lunar eclipse cycle or so, and Teens are great.

Here's an album they put out a month ago that fits in snugly with Brooklyn and San Francisco. But we're talking Boise here. - Impose Magazine

"Idaho Garage, TEENS Drop Debut LP"

Boise …dude… what comes from Boise… potatoes? Seriously you could hide a murder (flock felt wrong gaggle felt too right so I chose murder..right in the middle BOOM) of Ewoks mounted on teradactyls in Boise and I would never hear about it haha I prolly need to follow @Boiseantiwhackness to get the dl because Idaho garage ensemble Teens are #oppositeofbad #forrealz #hashtagssuc haha.
Teens , Teens, rocks pure and simple. It also jangles and surfs. A pretty shining example of modern garage rock with an affinity towards dancing in the sand on a summer day. Standout track for me is album opener Reasons. For a few seconds you will swear you are about hear a kidney damaged welshman in a velvet jumpsuit start howling Glllllooooooorrrrriiiiia haha That good. I don’t know why that isn’t the single. You can stream (or buy..it is only 3 clamaroonis) that and the whole album @ bandcamp. Primero single O’lay was a good choice though. A poppy little dance jam that is hard to not dig on some level even if it ends up being too saccharine for my taste. Die is actually a wail at the moon love song..not the poison pen letter to the Bravo channel I was hoping for #realhousewivesofjusteffingstopalready haha clikplai! - Seizure Chicken

"New Music From TEENS"

What’s the best new music your $3 can buy? In my opinion, it’s gotta be the new self-titled record from Teens. It’s the perfect short little release for summertime, filled with bits of garage rock, hints of psychedelia, and perhaps a hint of classic surf twang. The vocals are a bit gritty, but you can’t deny the passionate approach of these guys. Each song breezes in, making you shuffle your feet just a bit, then goes off into the next song before you’ve had a chance to sit down and breathe. If you want to have a wet n’ will summer filled with hooks and debauchery, I suggest you choose the Teens to be the soundtrack. - Austin Town Hall

"Those Damn TEENS Rock My World"

Terribly immoral and perversely suggestive heading aside, Teens is an incredibly hard band name to find info on. That said, I did find out about the Idaho garage act, otherwise I wouldn't be saying how much I enjoy their self-titled album. They've only been around for less than a year, but their brand of garage surf punk with shades of Eric Burden is infectious, relatively tight (for the genre this is a pleasant surprise) and love music, full stop. And if you don't like it, fuck off. Their words, not mine. But to be fair, if you are reading this blog and still can't be bothered to like Teens, you may as well do as they say. - Sonic Masala

"TEENS - Bleeding"

Not too sure how Boise's garage rock scene is, but if the bands their sound anything like Teens then I think they got something going on. Teens' brand of garage rock is loud and gritty yet the melodies are catchy enough to give them a broader appeal. They have some music which can be streamed here and officially comes out March 29th. Below are three tracks from the EP but be sure to check out the last track "Lights" as well. - See The Leaves

"TEENS' Music Has the Elements of an Atomic Bomb"

"TEENS"

Boise’s Teens recorded their new self-titled psychedelic rock record in an underground Cold War-era bomb shelter just outside of town, with some dilapidated equipment and two mics. After listening to their nine-track hydrogen-bomb of a record, it’s difficult to imagine Teens seeking shelter anywhere — mainly because they ARE the explosion. This is exactly the kind of music Lester Bangs would have loved. It’s in your face, messily real, authentically garage, and just plain hell raising. Yeah, there are touches of The Animals — but so what? In fact, maybe ‘So What’ should be the title of the record. It’s a mantra that expresses perfectly the carefree guitar blitz, the hammering drum beat and the anthemic slacker-slurred choruses devoid of all that arty preening. The music just is. Despite song titles like “Die With You”, “Bleeding” and “White Devil” — this record is unadulterated joy in a bottle. It’s the beauty of a good spit. It’s that freak-out electric spasm you want to let loose on a concert floor, but fear to do with all your friends watching. Seeing a Teens live show should be on your shortlist. It’s now on mine. Can’t imagine what kind of bozo crowd antics would go on during one of their full-throttle burnouts. One of the strongest cuts, the lead song “Reasons”, will give you an idea of just how much this band rips it up. It’s infectious. And who doesn’t love subtle humor among the bang and swell. The album opener begins sleepily with deliberate guitar strums, teasing with the gentility to come, until the lead singer screams out with a knife’s fury, “1 … 2 … 3 … 4!!!” The band has two songs available for free download at their bandcamp page. - Their Bated Breath
