Telegraf

Following a 3 year position as producer and staff composer at Razorhead Music in New York City, Brooklyn-based musician Patrick Krouchian began freelancing under the name Telegraf in 2006.

By juxtaposing an eclectic collage of pounding breaks with a minimal Schubert piano line, Telegraf caught the attention of DSW Shoes and went on to score three back-to-back spots for their spring 2006 "Legs" tv campaign, while retaining the infectious percussive theme throughout.

The resulting spots established a relationship between Telegraf and NYC's Moondig Edit. Patrick has also composed music for Victoria's Secret, Neutrogena, Timex, Toyo Tires, Dodge,
McDonald's, Remy Martiin, The Limited, Brut, and Calvin Klein.

In 2008, Patrick teamed up with Gerard Smith of TV on The Radio to collaborate on three compositions for the Johnson & Johnson pavillion at the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Originally from Montreal, Patrick also produces his own original music; Dark cinematic textures, combined with gritty breaks and quirky synths, with a subtle pop sensibility, which also transcends to his style of composition for television. A somewhat left-field approach to the ubiquitous orchestral and squeaky clean sonic aesthetic we are used to hearing in the world of tv ads.

Influenced by mostly 80's pop and new-wave acts such as The Human League, Ultravox, The Cure, Roxy Music and Men Without Hats, to name but a few, Patrick has a knack for quickly creating catchy and quirky hooks, yet can also combine strong melodies with a more avant-garde and surreal music bed. Composers such as John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Pierre Henry, Brian Eno, Debussy and Satie have also been an influence.

His track, Pink and Gold, received a rather glowing review from the UK's Computer Music Magazine:

"This is the weirdest but also, in our opinion, best track we've featured from the Listening Lounge.
Krou specializes in abstract electronica with a heavy surreal twist, and this piece would sit perfectly
in a David Lynch movie. If you appreciate unnatural soundscapes then be sure to have a listen -
it sounds truly exceptional.
Things come in and out of focus and momentarily have you think you know what's going on,
only to then disappear off into the mist again. At the end, when the drugs wear off, things
become a bit more recognizable and you can almost make out a tune, albeit a bit of a blurry one.
