Feeling a bit camera shy

Brandi R. Parker performs under the stage name, "TELLA"

An industrious and introspective child, Parker's favorite pastime was spending time in her bedroom and playing or listening to music. As a teen, she learned to sing by mimicking the subtleties of Morrison's vocals. She learned guitar by mimicking Krieger, Hendrix, Young and Page. She ultimately found her own voice and began writing songs at the age of 15.

While obtaining an Art degree from the University of Arkansas she released a full-length album, "Laundry Day," with her college band, Sigmund Blue. The Sigmund Blue members eventually moved in separate directions both physically and artistically, pushing Parker to drive over interstates to tour in her home state of Arkansas, and to move to her current home, New York City. Moving to the city has tested her ideas of living. And dealing with less space and less money has also had its influence on her songwriting.

Though far away from something familiar, the Southern culture remains in her constitution, adding sweet and soulful flavor to her songs.
