"Hot Press Music Show"

She spoke to Hot Press following her meeting with the President…

The RDS was abuzz with anticipation for the arrival of President Michael D. Higgins on day two of The Music Show. Following a warm welcoming speech from Niall Stokes, the floor was open for Dublin rapper Temper-Mental MissElayneous to greet the President with a skillful fusion of traditional Irish music and her own fierce brand of rap.

The mix of art and culture was appropriate for the occasion as the President was moved to praise the efforts of MissElayneous. We caught up with her afterwards to talk about her experience and the state of modern Irish hip hop. - Hot Press

"The 405 Blog"

A couple of weeks ago RTE, Ireland's state broadcaster, showed a programme called Ireland's Rappers. While much of the music was of little worth, it worked as a story about a particular subculture among working class youth. However, there was a diamond in the musical rough. A young girl from Finglas was seen spitting out rhymes in the club and on the street. The amazingly monikered Temper-Mental MissElayneous is wise beyond her years. Her lyrics are confrontational yet smart; and who can argue with song titles like Proletarian Restitution? There is an EP available on bandcamp. Buy it! - 405

"Irish TV’s take on homegrown hip-hop"

Whether it was watching her freestyle on the street in Finglas or mentoring other female would-be rappers about their flow, she was on-point, lively and fascinating, one of the brightest sights and sounds on the Irish music scene right now. - Irish Times

Bio

"Temper-Mental MissElayneous”, born: Elayne Harrington is an artist from Finglas. It's difficult to box her into one category as she varies in her ability and style, however she's most fondly recognized as a rapper. MissElayneous has collaborated with numerous other musicians and continues to branch out to create new work. She has trained as an actor in Bull Alley Theatre Company and has performed in professional productions with diverse roles, amid strong casts. In Summer 2011 she supported Wu Tang Clan in Tripod alongside Street Literature. "JazzHiphop" kick-started a regular slot in Whelan’s with Rob Arkins of "The Commitments" and renowned saxophonist, Ciaran Wilde. To date in 2012 she has performed/supported on the same bill as Mick Jones from The Clash, Tricky, THEE Satisfaction, and Shabazz Palaces. She continues to achieve consistent levels of gigging, showcases, auditioning and teaching/facilitating.
Recording and performance have been integral to her refinement of stage presence and vocal/creative stamina. The launch of "Proletarian Restitution EP is her current release. Bodhran playing, shanty singing and rhyming/spoken word are where her inspirations are married. The American independent Hip-hop cultural movement and her Irish balladeer story telling and melody can morph quickly to blues crooning or RnB harmony if she can be torn away from her new venturing on the mic ... drum and bass(DnB) and dubstep emceeing.
Elaynes' character is of a determined and optimistic nature and this is expressed dominantly through Temper-Mental MissElayneous' persona. She is honoured to be given the opportunity to share that with other people just like her ...

Her journey so far has lead her toward working with younger artists in a teaching and creative environment, where she offers supportive guidance and aids development of talent and potential. Offering fine-tuning of gifts and and in this process, she develops and perfects her own artistry. Emphasis is put on the importance of confidence and on the harnessing and protection of the individuals esteem and value of their uniqueness. Creative based projects she's facilitated and coordinated within include "Lift" (group lyric writing and recording), "Re-Invent" (,cross-border' group song-writing, singing, and interactive performance). "Anthems" (current all-female youth drama and writing program), 'workshops" (lyrical and musical song composing at Roddy Doyles writing centre "Fighting words").
Most recently MissElayneous has been at ease, working with a driven and focused group of students who promoted their strength of character and flexible assets through rhythm, breath /vocal control/power and intense writing. These hard-working and talented rappers, singers, drummers and beat-boxers combine to create this one-of-a-kind Anthem.
Their encouraging team work and listening ears made the project a joy and gave fresh enthusiasm and renewed inspiration. Coupled with a vibrant energy, the honesty and emotional value of The Youth Reach Crews' work has been captured here to captivate and inform you. With the help of Pete Holliday (producer and musician, The Radiators), Eamon (SIRNAME), (Bodhran player and mentor) and Elayne Harrington (Temper-Mental MissElayneous).
In February 2012 MissElayneous released her first EP called Proletarian Restitution which is available for digital download and physical purchase via Temper-Mental MissElayneous Bandcamp. Stay tuned much more to come from this very multi-faceted artist.
