"Canadian Music Week 2015 showcase review - "band of the night""

So. You think you can put in a bit of Led Zeppelin in your set? You really have the balls to take on the holy grail of #RealRock? Well Ten Minute Detour mashed up Good Times, Bat Times to close out their set with a major exclamation mark that left us on our asses. The band had a great vibe with an incredible vocal/guitar interplay. Their style often had epic Zeppelin style build ups in a great garage blues style. They have blistering guitars with a nice clean and polished sound. For us CMW is about discovering great new bands and any band that has us referencing Led Zeppelin twice in a paragraph is a big win. Ten Minute Detour wins our GIG OF THE NIGHT mention for CMW May 2 2015 and have landed solidly on our radar. Calgary has produced two of our favorite bands, namely Open AIR and Frankie McQueen and now Ten Minute Detour make it a solid 3 for 3 out of Calgary. - Tmak world - indie blog

"Ten Minute Detour blends ’80s pop with modern rock"

I didn’t get to a lot of shows this week, but was glad I made it to the Slice for Calgary’s 10 Minute Detour, Saturday, March 31. With the addition of a keyboardist/guitarist to the core of frontman Andrew Shier, bassist Mike Stokes guitarist Jordan MacNeil and drummer Ross Watson.

They were a fascinating contrast of styles ’80s to ’ 08 ranging from ’80- pop and Can Con along the lines of Harlequin and Streetheart, especially vocally, to more modern garage rock influences along the lines of the Strokes and The Hives. They sounded like Harlequin meets the Strokes with a touch of Cage the Elephant.

The band played most of their two CD “Lay It Down” and their latest “Common Pleasure, added some new songs and some genuinely beautiful ’80s moments.

They teased the enthusiastic audience with a few bars of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”

They tapped into the ’90s for an impressive cover of Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” and the Pixies’ “ Where is my Mind.” But the highlights were their own catchy , gritty songs like JDK from their “Lay it Down” CD and “Nashville Geographic” and more experimental, groove fuelled songs like “Poli Shore” from their newest CD. They were called back for an encore of a Black Keys’ song. - LA Beat

"Poli Shore review"

The low-fi garage rock sound that Ten Minute Detour have crafted seems like their way of expressing that they aren’t perfect in the mainstream sense of the word but they are indeed perfectly delivering what people need to hear.

Surprisingly, ‘Poli Shore’ originally wasn’t intended to make the album! Fortunately, the band spontaneously decided to record it on their final day at the studio. Produced by Lincoln Parish, former guitarist of Cage the Elephant, Ten-Minute Detour have really created an electric and enigmatic banger for the people to hear. - Xune Mag

"Poli Shore debut"

Canadian garage-rock band Ten Minute Detour are back with their huge new track ‘Poli Shore’. The track is off of their sophomore album, ‘Common Pleasure’, and was recorded in Nashville with Lincoln Parish (former and original guitarist for Cage The Elephant).

Bio

Brought together by the winds of change (and a few classified ads), Ten Minute Detour cut their teeth in a small, detached, heatless garage in Calgary, Alberta, where they set in place the foundation for Lay It Down, the band’s debut full-length album. Highlights from Lay It down include Four Papers and Getaway, two catchy alternative rock tracks which have helped pave the road for the band, who have played hundreds of shows across Canada.

In the winter of 2017, Ten Minute Detour recorded their second album in Nashville, Tennessee, teaming up with producer and former Cage the Elephant guitarist, Lincoln Parish. Their sophomore album Common Pleasure, whose seven tracks were recorded over a harrowing seven days, is a testament to the band’s maturation and growth in songwriting and storytelling, shedding the garage-rock skin and dawning a more expansive, gripping, sophisticated sound.

2018 was a year of change for Ten Minute Detour, seeing the release of their sophomore album, several lineup changes, and relocation from their prairie home to Southern Ontario. Ten Minute Detour navigated these turbulent waters with aplomb, however, and is poised to take 2019, Canada, and the international stage by storm.
