They liked her first name so much, they opted to use it as the band’s name.
Now, Tenasie, the band, has won Best Country Duo or Group at the seventh annual National Independent Music Awards, held Aug. 31 in Nashville. The band performed at the event.
“It was really important to be honored because there are so many independent acts in Nashville,” Bowe said. “We weren’t really expecting to win. We were just excited to play … we were so shocked. It was a really cool feeling, to know that all your hard work was paying off.” - Jan Hogan

Bio
Tenasie Bowe & Matt Keyler, combining their songwriting and performance skills to create a unique and refreshing sound, make up the Americana/Pop duo “Tenasie.” Coming from two different sides of the country (Bowe, Las Vegas and Keyler, Indianapolis), they both moved to Nashville in pursuit of furthering their solo careers. First meeting in January 2013, later that spring they played in their first writer’s round together and felt an instant chemistry through similar writing styles and an undeniable blend of their voices. Immediately the two began writing together and forming a band to perform as the new act “Tenasie.” After playing locally and nationally throughout the summer, they were named Nashville Independent Music Award’s “Best Country Duo/Group of 2013.” Currently they are in the process of recording their first EP and consistently performing locally.
