TEN FEET FROM MURDER—
Clifton, NJ
Big Dave, from Factory Studios 2 in
Clifton, NJ (where my band Smoke Star
rehearses), recently turned me on to a
great metal band who rehearses right
down the hall from me.Dave told me that
this band Ten Feet From Murder wanted
to drop off a copy of their Murder EP, which,
of course, was fine with me. But then Dave
told me which room Ten Feet From Murder
was in and would you believe it, they’re
the band whose door we stop at and listen
to whenever we’re taking a break from
rehearsal? Through the door they sounded
tight and had a vicious attack on their
songs. But then I popped their Murder CD
in and it was even more brutal! We’re
talking metal at its finest!
Singer Ed Wieczorek reminded me
much of the man himself, Phil Anselmo.
He had lots of similarities in vocal style of
the Vulgar Display Of Power Phil, and
being a huge Pantera fan, it was refreshing
to hear. Musically, there were plenty of
double bass patterns and crunchy and
speedy guitar riffs. The music was tight
and arranged perfectly. There wasn’t a
bad song on Murder, especially if you’re
into this style of metal. From the first song
“Discordia” to the next song “Unto Others”
to “Lost Soul” to the final song on the CD
“Fear Of Death,” you’ll get nothing but an
earful of straight forward metal. These are
four guys that get what metal actually
means!
Ten Feet From Murder originally started
off as a side project, combining members
of other bands and individual musicians.
This final version of the band is something
that must be witnessed live…well,
according to the band anyway. The band’s
sound is an assortment of a few musical
genres like hardcore, death metal,
traditional metal and speed metal. Singer
Ed Wieczorek comes from a hardcore
background and grew up in the ever
popular NYC hardcore scene of the ’80s.
Lead guitarist Lon Cerame is an 18 year
veteran of the Jersey metal scene. After
taking 10 years off from playing the guitar,
Lon was convinced to get back into the
scene and he picked up right where he
left off with his last band, Neurotoxin,
nearly 11 years ago.Today, Lon continues
to be the dominant force, covering all of
the guitar work as the main composer for
Ten Feet From Murder.
Also coming out of a six year break from
the Jersey metal scene is former
Neurotoxin drummer Darren Cooper.
Darren’s influences enable him to combine
old school metal with today’s hard hitting
style of drumming.Rounding out the band
and hailing from Pablo Escobar’s
hometown of Medellin, Colombia, is bassist
Juan Arbelaez. A student of The American
Institute of Music in NYC, Juan has been
playing bass for about 15 years and has
played in several metal bands from Queens
to Long Island, NY. Juan’s playing style
added to the depth that Ten Feet From
Murder were seeking.
Now, if you’re a metal fan, and I know
some of you are, you have to check out
Ten Feet From Murder. With seasoned
veterans like these guys, you know
that they have to be good! There are
three ways to get your hands on Ten
Feet From Murder: of course, there’s
myspace.com/tenfeetfrommurder; if you’re
in the Connecticut area, you can catch
Ten Feet From Murder with Dave and boys
from Speed Chamber at The Monkey Bar
in Danbury, CT, or you can buy Ten Feet
From Murder’s EP Murder through
cdbaby.com and digstation.com. Have I
let you down before? Well, maybe, but
you have to check out Ten Feet From
Murder. They’ll have you headbangin’ in
no time!

Bio

Ten Feet From Murder started off as a project band in November of 2005 combining members of another band and individual musicians. The final product has been together since July of 2006 and is something YOU MUST witness LIVE. The sound is an assortment of musical genres which include: Hardcore, Death Metal, Traditional Metal and Raw Power. The singer comes from a Hardcore background and an upbringing in the New York City Hardcore scene. The frontman for the NJHC band REACT and vocalist for the NY/NJ Hardcore band RDX. Influences and friends include Death Before Dishonor(the original NYC band), Youth Of Today, Judge, Biohazard, Underdog, Warzone, Supertouch, Candiria, Walls of Jericho, Lamb of God and many others. The lead guitarist Lon Cerame, is an 18 year veteran of Metal with such influences as Testament, King Diamond, Pantera, Shadow's Fall, Lamb of God, In Flames, and Killswitch Engage. After a 10 year hiatus from playing the guitar, Lon was convinced to get back into the scene. Lon didn't lose a fret from playing in his last band Neurotoxin nearly 11 years ago. Lon picked up where he left off and continues to be the dominant force at Lead and Rhythm Guitar as the main composer for Ten Feet From Murder. After a 6 year break from the Metal scene, Darren Cooper of Neurotoxin who's influences include Rush, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate and Slayer joins the Ten feet From Murder crew. Darren's technical influences enable him to eloquently combine old school Metal with today's heavy hitting style of Headbanging. Hailing from Medellin, Colombia with influences like Steve Harris, Ron Royce and Frank Bello, Juan Arbelaez mans the Bass for Ten Feet From Murder. A student of The American Institute of Music in NYC, Juan has been playing Bass for about 15 years and has played in several Metal bands from Queens and Long Island NY. Juan's current band influences include Scar Symmetry, Soilwork, Testament, Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy and many others. Juan's style of play adds the much needed depth Ten Feet From Murder was looking for.
