"Tenisha Rochelle"

Episode 367

Artist: Tenisha Rochelle

About the Episode:

In a city of Country and Christian pop music, Nashville native Tenisha Rochelle emerges as the new modern singer-songwriter distinguishable by her eccentric blend of soul, jazz, and folk music. This songstress describes her Imusic as genre-less because she pulls from many musical genres. "I would say that it is jazz vocals with soul-filled chords; It is very honest lyrics and just good music." she said describing her musical style.

In second grade, she began studying classical piano and was trained for 12 years. She wrote her first song in the fifth grade and won the National Writers Guild songwriting contest for musicians in her age group. At eight, she penned her first lyrics.

She attended Nashville School of the Arts, a performing arts high school in Nashville, Tennessee. There she fell in love with folk music. "I love the honesty in the lyrics, the storytelling, she said. I love how laid back the music is so that you can focus on the lyrics."

Tenisha Rochelle has performed for former Tennessee governor Phil Bredesen, along with other famed venues like B. B. Kings with Shannon Sanders, who writes for Jonny Lang and India.Arie. She has also been asked to perform at Hard Rock Café at an event sponsored by the Grammys and has made an appearance at many colleges and universities.

Tenisha is a brilliant performer in the mold of Seventies songstress Minnie Riperton and yet her style is completely her own. She was an absolute joy to record. If you get the chance to see her live, do it, you will be glad you did.
