Ten Story Relapse Releases…
ATLANTA, GA.--July 6, 2003—Ten Story Relapse announces the release of its second
album, “Frequency.” Much like their break through debut “Tug,” Ten Story Relapse
continues to explore language and music through the geography of relationships--
charting the making and the undoing of them.
With seminal influences like The Smiths, Jellyfish, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and
Fountains of Wayne, Ten Story Relapse infuse their music with peculiarities and
lyrics that are sharp and inviting. The musical tempo maps out the course of an
emotional landscape, at times pitching into a rush of guitars and drums and then
pulling back into whispering lyrics. “The basis for ‘Frequency’ was to explore and
deconstruct our tendency to be dependent on the things and people around us,”
says TSR. “The common theme that surfaces is that we are all connected by these
habits….that they form the realities we’ve created for ourselves.” A lofty goal?
Probably, But TSR somehow pulls this off, in most cases with a clever wink of irony
and a nod to pop culture.
Who is responsible for the rich vocals and layered tones? John Douglas (formerly
of Curious George) provides lead vocals and colors the album with the occasional
percussive instrument. Mark Milam (formerly of Take Two) is the talented multiinstrumentalist
who plays virtually every instrument on the record.
Currently, Ten Story Relapse is one of the featured artists on www.cdstreet.com with its
single “Mistress and Surgeon” as the number one download. The next live performance
of Ten Story Relapse serves as the band’s CD release party for “Frequency”. This will
be an acoustic set scheduled for August 9, 2003 in Atlanta, Georgia at Andrews
Upstairs. For more information on their live performance, call (770) 330-0786.

For immediate release:
“When I first listened to ‘Frequency’ I was lucky enough to be wearing headphones.
I was immediately sucked into the incredible production value as well as the quirky
scenarios/stories that are driven by offbeat, clever lyrics that keep popping in your
head long after you finish listening to the disk. The CD doesn't have a weak track
although some of the stand outs are ‘take our picture,’ ‘planting seeds,’ ‘ken with
the girl from Cincinnati,’ ‘here without me’ and ‘geronimo’. But I have to admit this
was not my first listening experience with TSR. My initial indoctrination to the music
of John Douglas and Mark Milam came in 2000 with their first CD ‘Tug’. At that time
I discovered that the two had the ability to combine beautifully textured sounds with
smart word play to create a listening experience that most indie acts would envy.
‘Frequency,’ their sophomore effort, takes this experience to an even higher level.
Simply put this is one of the most original and best indie CD's I have had the
pleasure to own in the last couple of years. “
