"Band Spotlight"

"Athens-based Tent City rolls into Macon and sets up camp at the Hummingbird this weekend. Expect to hear some dirty, blues influenced, jazzy funk. Did you get all that? Well, I guess you’re just going to have to see them live and take it all in." - Macon.com (The Telegraph)

"Athens-Based Band Plays at the Hummingbird in March"

"MACON, GA.--Tent City performs at The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom Saturday March 3.

They're a 5-piece band out of Athens, Ga.

They blend a mix of rootsy rock, funk, soul and jazz.

The instrumentation consists of a heavy core with 2 drumsets and bass and is led by a soaring guitarist and a limitless keyboard player.

The band has been turning heads and growing larger audiences in the southeast and has shared the stage with artists such as Chuck Leavell (The Allman Brothers Band,Sea Level, The Rolling Stones) Matt Abts and Jorgen Carlsson of Government Mule, and Vaylor Trucks (Bonobos Convergence, The Yeti Trio)." - 13WMAZ

"Collaborators in music and great causes, Tent City returns to Statesboro for two nights of back to back music"

Gathering in Athens, Ga., the musical collaboration of Greg Kearney on guitar, Greg Cooler on bass guitar and Scott Underwood on Drums makes up the Statesboro-raised jam band, Tent City. Theses guys get it right, oozing out tunes of psychedelic funk with a bluesy sway. Some of their musical influences and reflective style comes from well-known artists like the Allman Brothers Band, Stevie Wonder, Widespread Panic, Radiohead, Phish, and Grateful Dead. Coming from different musical backgrounds of blues, jazz, and funk-fusion, each member brings a little bit of something different to the table, which is why they have no problem creating songs with a "unique" sound.
Making perfect sense of the clash between blues and funk, their wordless originals include 'Somewhere Around Barstow', 'Nook & Cranny', and 'Run For Your Life'. And when it comes to their music-making capabilities, Tent City has one objective: "mak[ing] it sound good". Describing the vibe of performing as "the most real experience", Tent City never ceases to daze and amaze an audience as they accompany their sound with an exciting light show bringing the "experience" to life.
You may have seen some of their performances at music festivals such as AthFest and a few smaller ones in the Athens area. They were also involved in not only performing in but also the making of Sheddfest. It Was put on this past May to benefit brain tumor research. This goes to show that they take the responsibility of not only making great music, but in support of great causes also.
Don't worry if you missed them earlier this year as they will be putting their talents on display Sept. 4th at the French Quarter Cafe and then the following night at Dingus Magee's. If you can't wait unitl then, you can check out their demo online at www.myspace.com/tentcityband. So take a trip to Tent City and be prepared to get lost in the paths of their musical wanderers.

Bio

Tent City, based out of Athens, Georgia, mixes a homegrown blend of gritty funk, jazz, and soulful blues. Formed in April of 2009, Tent City grew out of sessions between guitarist Greg Kearney, Bassist Greg Cooler, and original drummer Scott Underwood. The group has evolved much since it’s Genesis. In early 2011, along came Logan Wallis on the keyboards (formerly of Laissez Funk) adding further melodic bliss and jazz styling, filling out the lead by complementing and challenging Kearney’s vocal guitar riffs. Shortly after, a personnel change brought powerhouse drummer Mike Strickland in, thus creating the powerful Sound that is Tent City. Taking influence from the schools of King Curtis, The Allman Brothers, Jeff Beck, Jaco Pastorius, Billy Cobham and the Meters, they blend a high energy performance that must be seen live. Tent City has been touring the southeast and growing a faithful fanbase ever since, sharing the stage with many great Georgia musicians including most recently, Matt Abts (Gov’t Mule) and Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers Band)
