Teo Peralez

Teo Peralez

BandRockSinger/Songwriter

"I chose Teo Peralez for feature because I connected with the solos and the dark harmonies cascading over chords... something like a painting on a wall in a crowded restaurant which draws attention due to shape and color" - Ellen E. Aldridge, Editor-In-Chief, Target Audience Magazine

Biography

"Out of the distant plains of eastern Nebraska and into the cool desert nights of Colorado's music scene, Teo Peralez is blazing a mixed trail of folk-rock music that toys with punk and country that is sure to calm the nerves and dance with the mind. "
-Featured Artist 5/14/2008, Local Promo Music Voice Magazine, beta.lpmvoice.com

Based out of Fort Collins, Colorado, Teo Peralez mixes powerful vocals, dark harmonies, and insightful lyrics into a new breed of singer-songwriter. Capable of generating incredible sound and energy with an acoustic guitar, and the with addition of a lead guitar in the live show, Teo Peralez delivers some of the fastest, loudest, most rockin’ music ever to resound from the 6-string.

Peralez's music can be as diverse as the scene he came from, ranging from country twang to folksy-blues jams, from soft acoustic ballads to explosive indie rock. Peralez follows in the steps of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain, and Dave King to showcase the acoustic guitar as an instrumental centerpiece of modern rock.

Teo Peralez's second full-length album entitled ”The Smell of Burning Leaves...” was released in September of 2008. Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, Teo Peralez has fused elements of Midwestern rock with diverse influences in Colorado's music scene to create a unique singer-songwriter experience. It's loud, it's melodic, it's edgy and cool. “The Smell of Burning Leaves...” introduces listeners to a new kind of songwriter and the power of Nebraska soul.

Tracks from "The Smell of Burning Leaves..." are already receiving college radio play on KTCL Channel 93.3, at Mesa State University, and 91.9 The Planet in Fayetteville, NC. The album received a rave review from Target Audience Magazine in Summer 2008.

Teo is currently putting the final touches on his third studio album. It is tentatively being recorded as "The 80/20 Demo Sessions", and will be released in late Winter 2008.

Teo Peralez is currently seeking promotion in local and internet-based publications and performance opportunities throughout the western United States.

Lyrics

New Orleans

Written By: Teo Peralez

I went down to New Orleans,
To look for something real,
I used to have a home,
And I used to live,
But then I looked outside,
And then I looked in me,
Then I looked at you,
And I watched you go,
Six feet under...

We sat on the roof for a week,
Tired, lonely, not white,
They all pass by,
Won't you come and rescue me?
Because I thought I had a friend,
He said his name was George,
He's with the government,
That left me to die,
Six feet under...

I used to have a home,
But now the fishes swim,
They're in my living room,
And I'm as good as dead,
Six feet under...

Out West

Written By: Teo Peralez

He walked on out of town,
With the silence in his way,
Whispering to himself,
Where he'd been,
Everything he'd ever known,
Had come and gone at last,
Bound to the road,
They say his life was perfect,
As any eye could see,
They say that once she loved him,
Maybe...

He said, "I'm going way out west,
Where the memories haunt the sky,
Out beyond the voices,
Lying in the trees,
For you..."

They say some men are slaves,
To the shadows in the night,
And doomed to dream,
Through the day,
Echoing the sanity,
That rumbles in their mind,
If you know how to see,
Walking on that lonely road,
On a cold December night,
Rays of stars,
Shooting down...

He said, "I'm going way out west,
Where the memories haunt the sky,
Out beyond the voices,
Lying in the trees,
For you..."

He said, "I'm going way out west,
Running through the night,
Far beyond the voices,
Far beyond the trees,
For you..."

Redemption

Written By: Teo Peralez

Walking through the days,
On the path they call redemption,
I cannot say,
That I've been,
Alone,
Words go floating by,
The sun's hiding behind a summer wind,
I cannot try,
Not to see you,
Anymore...

Melodies in chords,
Mirror expressions of opinion,
Evermore,
I'm forcing out,
Boundless inner truth,
For some hearts hide in lies,
Still others hide their demons,
But in mine,
Just an angel,
Severed and unknown...

Staring at the Ceiling

Written By: Teo Peralez

Staring at the ceiling,
These walls are closing in,
And sometimes I just don't know if I can make it through the day,
Sometimes when I sit here,
I'm feeling so alone,
Maybe I'm just trying to go without crying, on again...

But I can see it in her eyes,
That we might be too close,
Too much for me to realize,
That we just aren't that way,
And when I'm thinking of you,
And you're not here with me,
Just keep me in your heart,
Because I've got you in mine...

Staring at the ceiling,
The walls are closing in,
And sometimes I just don't know if we're here at all,
You know that I'm searching,
For that place to call my own,
But out here on this empty plain, it's all so pointless,
Might as well grow old...

But I can see it in her eyes,
That we might be too close,
Too much for me to realize,
That we just aren't that way,
And when I'm thinking of you,
And you're not here with me,
Just keep me in your heart,
Because I've got you in mine...

Now I'm staring out my window,
Just waiting for your call,
I'm staring at the ceiling,
These stars will make me see,
But remember if you're crying,
That I'm always here,
I'm not like every other guy you'll ever meet because...

I can see it in her eyes,
That we might be too close,
Too much for me to realize,
That we just aren't that way,
And when I'm thinking of you,
And you're not here with me,
Just keep me in your heart,
Because I've got you in mine....

Nebraska Soul

Written By: Teo Peralez

I want something,
There's someone,
I used to call my own,
But if you could see through me,
Like everyone else can,
Would you stay?
And will anything change?
Maybe so, maybe so,
But every day I keep on going,
I'm losing my direction,
At every turn...

And what am I now?
But another lost Nebraska soul?

I want something,
Maybe this time it will last,
But when I look into your eyes,
All I see,
Is what you've left behind,
Am I so easily discarded,
Like your soul?
Because I don't know who I am...

And what am I now,
But another lost Nebraska soul?

And I Don't Care...

Written By: Teo Peralez

So what the hell are you doing here?
Why do all these people stare?
I know exactly what they'll say,
I'm sitting here alone,
And I don't care...

There's gentlemen in ladies rooms,
I'm not sure what this means to you,
Alone, alone, alone,
Because you're sitting there alone,
And I don't care...

As common decency declines,
These morals talk in mother's eyes,
While in your midst I walk about,
A sinner speaks to me,
And I don't care...

The foolish lie and faithful creep,
To shallow walls where dead loves weep,
I rise above my only friend,
I've enemies to keep,
And I don't care...

Evangelist

Written By: Teo Peralez

I know you say that summer days are ending,
I know you say that my fall will soon begin,
I know you say that all the stars are shining in the sky,
And they aren't going to let me in,
I know you say that all my truths are lies,
I know you say that only freedom could be true,
I know you say that I should swear away my soul and die,
For that deadly freedom close to you...

But I know that I am not the reason,
And I hold this to be true,
Though a gun could kill a man and his wishes,
It could never kill my thoughts of you...

I know you say that you have never met me,
I know you say that dignity is in your wing,
I know you say that so long as I live just for a life,
That my life will never mean anything,
I know you say that I am just pretending,
I know you say that my eyes have been held shut,
I know you say that I could never know anything,
So long as I trust only in my gut...

But I just want you to know that I...
I hold this to be true,
Though a gun could kill a man and his wishes,
It could never kill my thoughts of you...

I know that I have made mistakes,
And I know you'll see it through,
Though a gun could kill a man and his wishes,
It could never kill my thoughts of you...

It could never kill my thoughts of you...

In Between

Written By: Teo Peralez

When summer skies are empty,
Memories are our dreams,
When cold air stands above me,
How can I rise above my means,
The past was full of promises,
Faith and memories,

But everything else,
Is in between,
But everything else,
Is in between,
But everything else,
Is in between...

As weary days of innocence,
And as memories pass on,
I've never really known myself,
Just known how I was wrong,
On the one hand I've got Jesus,
But Satan's on the other side,

And God is somewhere else,
Stuck in between,
But God is somewhere else,
Stuck in between,
Now God is somewhere else,
Stuck in between...

Drowning in these solemn thoughts,
The memories fade at dawn,
I've been seeking all I'm not,
A dream to carry on,
I've been looking for myself,
Been searching high and low,

But the truth is somewhere else,
Stuck in between,
The truth is somewhere else,
Just in between,
Truth is nowhere else,
But in between...

Like Stones

Written By: Teo Peralez

My words can fly like stones,
But deaf ears are like bricks,
The deaf ears are alone, empty,
These eyes can hate to tears,
With hands they're meant to kill,
There ain't nothing left to do 'round here,
So I'm going on my own...

I'm gazing like a stone,
With murder across my chest,
And sadness in my home, they leave me,
Like bloody hands in pairs,
In lands where tears are empty,
Can't hide without the years,
So I'm going on my own...

These words will fall like time,
As nothing to these ears,
We've all such shallow minds, in plenty,
For it's easier to tread,
When beliefs are so shallow,
That they're only in your head,
So I'm going on my own...

To Friends...

Written By: Teo Peralez

Could you look me in the eye,
And tell me what you see?
The more I try,
The more you seem to fall away,
I cannot see your face
From where you leave me now,
I'm in this place
Alone...

Tell me why am I
The only one whose trying now,
Can't you see how I want this to be?
And tell me why
I'm crying now
Lying on the floor without you near...

I still remember when
We ruled this whole damn town,
Staying out all night,
Listening only to ourselves,
My how times have changed,
Like memories, they fade,
Now I'm stuck
Alone...

So tell me why am I
The only one whose trying now,
Can't you see how I want this to be?
And tell me why
I'm crying now
Lying on the floor without you near...

Jesus of Laredo

Written By: Teo Peralez

Speak to me my friend,
Tell me of your land and your country,
And tell me how you live,
Dying to be free,

You are your own savior,
Can't you see?
Hear the words of Jesus of Laredo...

Corruption ruled the land,
Down there where the people have no money,
Slaving through their days,
To survive in poverty,
But Jesus had a plan,
Stole a horse and rode on through that country,
Freedom on his lips,
Rebellion on his mind,

You are your own savior,
Can't you see?
Hear the words of Jesus of Laredo...

Peasants gathered 'round,
Marching through the heat into the cities,
They appealed to the UN,
To demand true liberty,
The powers butted in,
Giving aid to the forces of oppresion,
Claiming, "Mexico is free,
For they have democracy,"

You are your own savior,
Can't you see?
Hear the words of Jesus of Laredo...

Surrounded and alone,
The wilderness, it echoed of their freedom,
As the army gunned them down,
For corrupt democracy,

You are your own savior,
Can't you see?
Hear the words of Jesus of Laredo...

They shot ol' Jesus down,
They shot my savior down,
Tell me how we,
Can be so blind that we,
Don't mind tyranny,
So long as it looks like democracy,

Welcome to the show,
You know it's all for show...

The '07 Draft Dodger's Blues

Written By: Teo Peralez

They say the summer days are heading down south,
So bury my dreams down in the snow,
Big dark clouds are rolling down the lane,
Heading on down to Mexico,
I told her all my friends have left here,
Now this '87's rolling down the road,
I'll be walking out of town with a bottle in my hand,
Heading on down to Mexico,

Ooo baby,
Don't you fret, now don't you cry, no,
Lord knows I love you though I ain't around,
And I know just the reason, yeah...

Baby, take me to the station,
That cold north wind's starting to blow,
I've got to take take my troubles, got to get out of town,
I'm heading on down to Mexico,
But don't ask why I'm leaving,
'Cause they say that you can't see what you don't know,
Selective service letter came in the mail today,
Now I'm heading on down to Mexico,

Ooo baby,
Don't you fret, now don't you cry, no,
Lord knows I love you though I ain't around,
And I know just the reason, yeah...

The rain clouds are pouring on my windshield,
Fuel tank is ready to explode,
So let them all pay as the others show the way,
I'm heading on down to Mexico,
My momma said that Jesus coming,
But I picked up a tip in San Antone,
You can always find you savior during death drafts and wars,
He's heading on down to Mexico,

Ooo baby,
Don't you fret, now don't you cry, no,
Lord knows I love you though I ain't around,
And I know just the reason, yeah...

Beautifully Blind

Written By: Teo Peralez

Sifting through,
The endless memories and waste,
Upon the floor,
A trace of absinthe in its wake...

And I know,
Just what it takes to live through these tears,
And I know your pain...

Sifting through,
Sifting through you...

I've felt you pain,
Stained memories do not erase,
I cannot say,
Just how I got from that place...

And I know,
Just what it take to live through these years,
And I know your rage...

Can't you see,
What you'd mean to me, girl?
You're beautiful to me...

Sifting through,
Sifting through you...

And the Falling Snow...

Written By: Teo Peralez

In your eyes,
In your pain,
In your memories and dreams,
Everything you see,
Will turn to gray...

Shattered on the floor,
Through silhouettes of war,
Hopeless, evermore,
Your thoughts of peace,
Carved upon your face,
And written in ever page,
Time will not erase,
A heart of stone...

In your eyes,
In your pain,
In your memories and dreams,
Everything you see,
Will turn to gray...

Buried in the snow,
Of this nuclear episode,
Every love you know,
Must go, go, go...

In your eyes,
In your pain,
In your memories and dreams,
Everything you see,
Will turn to gray...
